Right now, I have a Hoover Elite which used to work really great, or so I thought until we moved into our house that has burgandy carpets. I have 1 all white cat which sheds enough hair for 5 cats, plus not to mention mega sock lint and food crumbs from ds. It's a great color carpet, but hides nothing!!!! Anyways, my vaccuum just kinda spreads the cat hair all over, and only picks up if I go over the same spot a hundred times. So now, I'm willing to put out a good chunk of change for a good upright vaccuum that's gaurenteed forever. So what do you use, and about how much did it cost? Are Kirby's and Orecks as good as they say they are? Thanks for your help!

I have a Kirby it was expensive, but I love it!
Before I got it I was spending 100-200 on vacumes every 2 or 3 years so I got the Kirby 6 years ago and I have had no problems. My mom still has hers that she has had since I was little so it is at least 25 years old. I am 32 but I don't know when she got it exactly.
It is kinda heavy but I don't lift it often and when I do I just figure it is a good workout.

No! LOL! But I *do* swear by my carpet. I put alot of thought into a color and pattern that would best hide dirt. I even took dirt from outside and pet hair....and spread it on the swatches. It's been awesome..some of the best research I've ever done! LOL!
My favorite vacume? The tiny light one...that's easy to work with! LOL! I think it's actually called a brooomsweep or something. Love it! (but then again...it may not be picking up a thing..and I just can't tell:eek: )

I have a kirby too. We've had ours for 4 yrs.I love it so much.It even has a carpet cleaner with it(now if I can only find time to clean the carpets)It is the most awesome vaccum I have ever had.Ok I've only had 2 but the one we had before the kirby we only had for 4 months so it was like new.So when the guy vaccumed our floor with our vaccum and it looked allright and then the kirby vaccum and saw what mine left behind I was convinced(he vaccumed our floor with my vaccum for 20 min)Not to mention they do pick up cat hair. The people who lived here before us had 2 himalayan(sp)cats and there was cat hair everywhere.Within a week of having the kirby it was all gone

I have a Kirby too..and I also love it...I dont even have carpet anymore..LOL....but it goes thru the house in like 15 minutes and gets up every BIT of dog/guinea pig hair . I hardly even use the broom anymore it seems. They are tough too....mine still works like new...despite the best efforts of my four boys and their friends to dismantle it.
