I feel like I just kind of goof off all day - I am always on this website. What do you all do? Do you use your degree? do you have a "profession"? What does your day look like? I know several here are stay at homes like me but even that is a misleading "job" you do much more than you realize...

I used to be a crisis counselor. I have an MC. I don't use it. I would like to be a teacher some day but for now I am mommee, the lunch room lady.

And you? (or for Lucie, "Et tu?)

I started off as a RN and ended up as a technical writer for the mining industry. In between I was editor of a small town newspaper. I have degrees in literature and journalism so I guess I did use them while I worked.

Now I'm retired and spend my time looking after my family, gardening, cooking and caring for my dogs and chooks. I also work two days a week in our store. DH retired too but it didn't stick with him and we bought the store to give him something to do. He loves it.

I'm totally in love with my life now. :)

Well, I started out as a Special Education teacher and did that for 6 years. Then I substitute taught for another 6 after we moved to this area. From there I started homeschooling my 3 kiddos and now I have added Branch Manager of our town's Library to my resume.:D I'm still homeschooling the boys and trying to balance that with my library job, volunteer work, teaching 2 classes outside of my home and all the day to day stuff trying to keep my home and family running smoothly.

Well, I never went to college per se. I went to nail tech school and bartending college. I got my tips certification at the bartending school...but more than anything I went to the classes to get out of the house, study something I didn't know and to learn something new. I never used either, as i stopped nail tech because of costs of certification and i never used bartending because to tell the truth, I can't stand alcohol. But in each class i did really really well. I have been a sahm for close to over four years. Before having the kids I worked pantry, dish in a restuaunt, and then moved to head hostess and then to solo day hostess...all at the same establishment. After that I worked a whole three days at wallyworld. I worked as a teen some, but it was mostly retail and food service.

I'm the Activity Director in a nursing home. My BS is in Art Therapy with a minor in Gerontology... so yes, I use my degree.

I only work two six-hour days a week now, since DD was born. I love my schedule... I've been blessed with a great boss who is very flexible. I work on DH's days off, so that he can watch her and we don't have to hire a babysitter. Two days a week is enough to keep me mentally stimulated (adult conversation!) and keep me up to date on work related things (state regs) but not enough that I take home all the job stress like I did when I was working 40-50 hours a week.

After we have another child or two, I'll probably stay at home full time for a while.

I'm an RN now. I've worked in medical, surgical, and oncology at hospitals. I now work (I don't know if you could call it work, since they never have anything for me to do) as a home health nurse. I'll gradute in December with my master's degree in nursing. I will be a Family Nurse Practitioner then. I hope I can find a job that will be flexible when I start having kids.

good luck with being a nurse practitioner, heather. in the past i have seen 3 of them and loved them. one was in college at the school clinic, one was at the OBGYN when i had dks, and the other was with the kids' pediatrition in CT. they listened to concerns better than the doctors usually do and didn't try to dismiss them and were always very supportive and comforting.

I'm a customer service rep - my degree is in Latin and Ancient Greek - so no, I don't use my degree to make money. I have recently working in CS for several manufacturing plants and would love to get into production planning and machine scheduling - I enjoy estimating and playing around with numbers all day. At the moment I'm stuck in more of a call center and my hours just got cut from 40 to 30, but DH and I are moving back home to MA in a few months, hopefully, I can get my old job back.

I have pretty much been a sahm for the last 18 years. I did a 2 1/2 year stint at a well known high tech company as a test cell prime (supervisor) on the late night shift. DH and I worked opposite shifts so that someone was always home with the kids. Before I had DS#1 I worked as an accounting secretary. I did my training to be a flight attendant but discovered I was pregnant again. I went back to working as a secretary for about six months and then quit for good to stay home with my children.

Most of my education is in music and teaching adults. I don't have a degree yet. I use both on a volunteer basis and I do some teaching of knitting and crocheting to adults so I do use that education. Once my kids are gone from the nest I will continue my music education and hopefully be a full time musician.

I teach 8th Grade Social Studies. My BA is in History and my Masters is in Social Studies Education. I am also the team leader for the teachers in my unit, which uses my Supervisors certificate that I went back to get a few years ago. After school and on weekends, I tutor and I teach piano lessons (originally I went to college as a music major) and just agreed to be in charge of the Spring Musical at my school, which will also use my musical training. I'm hoping to finish up my Principal's certificate next year and move into administration.

Well, I just posted my intro in the welcome wagon thread, but how can it hurt to talk about it again? ;)

I was a SAHM up until last October when I started back to school for cosmetology. Now that my youngest is school age (and I can go without feeling guilty!), I don't have to worry about day care or a baby sitter, since I get home right around the time they get off the bus.

As of my new job I'm a medical assistant. They are training me to do EKG's, holter monitors, and blood pressures. I did my first EKG on Friday! :) It was easy. I now work for a cardiologist, so these things are necessary skills, but I told them I was willing to learn (which I am) so they would hire me. So far I really like my job, and the money and benefits aren't hurting either.

I'm learning how to structure my time now that I work full time.

The baby goes to my mom 2 days a week and to daycare/preschool the other three days. She has adapted quickly to "school" and LOVES it. I'm so glad she jumped right in.

The older two girls can let themselves in after school and they do their homework and stuff. I know I raised two responsible teens, and so far they have been great with the adjustment.

I'm an Animator and Computer Artist at my current day time job for an educational software company. I have worked for them for 9 1/2 years. I have a BS in Graphic Design and a Associates in Fine Art. I use my degree everyday. I am also a quilt and handbag designer (Michele Annette Designs) and am currently building an online store. I love my jobs and can't wait to discover more of what I want to do with my life!

I am an RN, but have been a stay- at- home mom for 10 years now. Most of the time I like it, sometimes I am restless and want to do something different. Not sure of what the future will bring.....

I'm an elementary school librarian. My actual degree is in Political Science, but I am certified to teach secondary english and social studies. This job sort of fell in my lap because of my english background. I'm currently working on my certification for library science.

I work full-time as a grantwriter for a local college. I just recently opened my own web and interactive design business. I hope to get that booming so that I can quit my grantwriting job and do web design full time because that's where my passion is.

I work as a unit representive (fancy name for unit secretary) in Cardiac ICU at a large regional hospital. The pay is good and I have great benefits. I love my job, it can be stressful and the hours are long but I can not imagine any place else I would ever want to work.

I think it is cool how many of us work in something related to the medical field. Thanks so much for the good luck wishes Pita, and Good luck to you Sarah. Sarah, you are in a very neat job, and are getting a cool perspective of the medical field.

I've had several jobs, from working in an electric motor plant to Receptionist. I began subbing about 3 years ago and my desire to touch young peoples lives has grown and grown to the point I went back to school and got my Associates, that wasn't enough so I went back and got my Masters in Elementary Education. I enjoy working mostly with Autistic, blind and deaf children
