negotiating with the repair shop.
DH recently changed the rear brakes on my taurus wagon. He got a really good deal on the parts by shopping around. Unfortunately, he ran into a snag and ended up with another repair job to do.
DH headed off to the local parts supply store and got a price of $119.00. But he doesn't have time to do the job himself (next day off is 10 days from now) and I need the car now. So we decided to take the car to the local repair shop
When we were given the quote, we discovered that it was going to cost $154 for the exact same parts. DH decided to ask if it was possible for us to supply our own parts. The mechanic wouldn't go for that but he did offer to charge us only $130 for the part.
So while what started out as a frugal diy job is costing us double, we were able to negotiate a reduction in the price of the parts because we knew would could get it cheaper else where.
I was very proud of DH today. He is learning...
