To me, gentle discipline means that I love my kiddo enough to guide them to positive behavior, not beat them into submission....

I'll spare you the gorey details....I was "spanked" & I've spanked my kids...there's nothing positive about it.
I did not respect my mother, I feared her. I want more with my kids.
There is a much, much better way to handle things & I'm so thankful this forum has been created to discuss positive methods of correction.
