Thanks for any ideas! Jeanna 11-11-2004, 10:11 AM Most large companys around here will not hire a 15 year old. However small shops and food shops will. Busing tables is one of the jobs many 14-15 year olds do. In NC she would not be able to run any appliances--IE deli's, cooking, etc. Most of the time the best way to get a job at that age is networking. Put the word out with friends and relatives usally someone knows someone who would hire her. Hope this helps a little.:smball: DaisyLady 11-11-2004, 10:47 AM Around here most 15 yo get jobs at the local grocery stores, produce markets as cashiers or grocery packers. Some get jobs at McDonalds too. Ellise 11-11-2004, 10:54 AM Rhonda, If you are in Spartanburg area she could work just about any where. Subway Eggers funeral home Ingles Bi-Lo Winn-Dixie most of the resturants Just have her go in and apply. KKCondrey 11-11-2004, 11:38 AM When I was 15 I got an after school job at a pharmacy. I had to get a work permit (not sure if that was just and NC thing or if you have to have one in all states). I would try some of the places that Ellise suggested or some other small places that don't have late hours. ALthough I know all the resturants I worked at they wouldn't hire anyone younger than 18 because of the hours and they would have to struggle to get them out of the store on time to keep from getting in trouble. Fast food, drugstores small family run businesses (When I worked at an MBE store back home now UPS store, the owner had a 16 year old working there after school. Since they aren't open to late it worked out well hour wise for her) couponchic 11-11-2004, 01:04 PM My sister worked at McDonald's when she was 15 and worked the drive through taking the orders. She really seemed to enjoy it and is thinking of going back to work there again. i.m.cheap 11-11-2004, 02:39 PM My oldest dd worked at a McDonald's when she was 15. They can work very limited hours during the school year, that is why many businesses do not want to bother hiring them. Children can work at 14 or 15, but the law states; not past 7:00pm on any evening preceding a school day, not after 9:00pm any other day. During summers, they can work up to 40 hours a week, but during the school year, I think they are limited to 15-20 hours a week. Most 15 year olds around here work the weekends only, because of the 7:00pm limitation. SewCrafty 11-11-2004, 02:45 PM What about babysitting or pet care, walking someone's dogs that work long hours? All those jobs pay well. Telephus44 11-11-2004, 03:00 PM My sister worked at a farm stand when she was 14 - I guess that the age limits for farm workers are different - I don't know if there are any near you, but there are TONS of them around here. And they're usually glad to have help! Rhonda 12-03-2004, 08:39 PM Thanks ladies! She just got a job at Chick-fil-A. She is sooo excited! writtenonmybody 12-04-2004, 02:06 PM Yay for her getting a job! My first Job at 15 was at an Ice Cream parlor. It was fun and I really enjoyed it. :) I haven't worked with any sort of food since but it was worth it. KKCondrey 12-04-2004, 02:08 PM glad to hear she got a job and glad that she is enjoying it :) |
