I'm seeing a trend here of me being incredibly helpless!!

Alright - remember that freezer gasket thing....well...I also just discovered that I had positioned the freezer in front of a heat vent - I thought the white vents were obsolete & the brown vents worked, but it's the other way around.... (if you've never lived in Gov't Quarters, just disregard!!)

I've managed to scoot (with the assistance of my incredibly strong son! ;) ) the freezer just slightly to the side of hte vent, but I know having hot air blow on the freezer just can't be a good thing!! :loop:

These vents don't have the louvers that I could shut to close off the majority of the heat when it's running, so, what can I use to block the heat from coming through that particular vent?! I seem to recall my grandma putting foil over the duct and then putting the vent back on, but man - that just doesn't seem safe....

Suggestions?!

Debbie, you can cover a vent with a thin piece of plywood or with foil. We have a vent in our bedroom that we often just put a thin sheet of wood over it because I like it cool in our bedroom.

and that's really safe?? I mean the last thing I need is to burn a government house to the ground! :toothy:

They have air vent deflectors and you can channel the air which way you want it to flow.

They also make the magnetic cover for them.

thanks girls!! I really appreciate the input.....

I think we're going to look into the deflectors....
if that's not enough, the magnetic covers.....
if that doesn't work, a piece of wood....

I just freak out at the thought of putting something combustible next to forced air heat - I realize it's probably not enough heat to start a fire, but my G'ma was burned nearly to death in a fire & I'm really funny about fires.....
