What types of jars do you use? Mason? Ball? Kerr? etc And what sizes? Do you think 1pt or qt size is most popular for canning? I saw some little 8oz ones that looked nice too.
I was looking at jars and came across some Weck ones. How do those work with plastic lids? I have only used metal lids and rings, so am curious the results with plastic lids.
I would just go yardsaleing for some (and buy new rings/seals), but unfortunately I don't think I could get all that I wanted in time.

Ive never used the Weck ones.
Heres a tip I pick up all my canning jars at Goodwill and other thrift stores. Around $.10 each makes them so affordable. I use alot of quarts for pickles and tomatoes. I use the pint and half pints for my relishes and jams :)
I do however buy never rings and lids , I never trust the ones in the thrift stores. And the minute any of mine have a hint of rust on it, they are tossed.

I use Kerr, Ball, the dollar store brands, and recycle mayonnaise jars. Some people are afraid to use mayonnaise jars, but I've used them many times and never had a problem with breakage. To be honest, I've never used them in a pressure canner, but Amy Dacycyzn has, and she said in one of the TWG books that's she's never had breakage, either.

I like the 1pt size for maybe two ppl but if you have a family the quart size is really the best. I also love the fancy little jelly jars, great to keep made up for last minute gift baskets. Oh, and I just love the wide mouths for ease of filling, anything to make my life easier. I think I spent half my summer in my mother's kitchen canning and freezing. It is a great memory to pass on to your kids!
