View Full Version : who has a gas fireplace? Sara Noel 11-25-2004, 10:07 PM I've read they are more economical than wood burning fireplaces. SewCrafty 11-25-2004, 10:09 PM We don't, but I think they would be a whole lot cleaner too! :) kimmee 11-25-2004, 10:48 PM we have a gas fireplace with an electric fan - it costs $18 per year for gas ( average use ) but if we use the fan the cost is double. The fan is nice for circulating the heat into the other rooms - but we typically just sit by it and just warm that room. pip 11-25-2004, 11:41 PM We're going to convert one of our fireplaces to a gas one this month. I'm really excited! :D Our living room will be so much more cozy and I know we'll use it more than the wood burning one.(which we hardly ever use). QuilterMom 11-25-2004, 11:50 PM Ours is wood burning. We don't really have much of an occasion to use one here though anyway. LOL Missy 11-26-2004, 12:59 AM We have a gas fireplace, but we don't have it in service. all that needs done is to connect one hose to another. But because of the kids we eided to wait until they are all older until we do connect it. By then we will live elsewhere i am sure. We have excellent insulation, but i am sure we could do better by using the fireplace. Julia Kimber 11-26-2004, 01:40 AM We have gas and wouldn't have anything else! It's economical, clean and warms up quickly! We also use a gas instant hot water system and also cook with gas! Julia DaisyLady 11-26-2004, 07:40 AM We have a wood burning but we don't use it as it is not the airtight kind and we just end up loosing heat up the chimney. We are looking at putting in either a gas one, or an airtight one or a pellet stove insert. I guess the deciding factor will be cost and availability. We have a propane furnace so that is the most available, we also have a pellet retailer two mile down the road who delivers. paelthom 11-26-2004, 11:04 AM We have four gas fireplaces and I just love them. We've had wood fireplaces in previous houses and the mess was just terrible. I love the gas, it warms up a room quick and it's clean. Now we do have the giant wood burner in the basement but that's in it's own space and the mess doesn't matter down there. Tater 11-26-2004, 04:07 PM We have a gas fireplace in the den and I love it!! It keeps the whole house warm if we circulate the air with the ceiling fan. Keeps the central heat from coming on constantly during the winter. However, we do spend aroung $300 on propane from late fall to early spring. Not sure of any savings there, I just know I'm warm in my old drafty house! Michelle 11-27-2004, 08:54 AM I have a traditional fireplace--that has never been used by anyone. I'd love to have a gas one instead :) PrairieRose 11-27-2004, 10:22 AM We have a plain ol' wood burning fireplace . I actually love it. Probably would be a bit cheaper to have a gas one though and I know the it would be cleaner. You would never have to pay a chimney sweep again, I'd bet. |
