View Full Version : do you dilute your shampoo? Sara Noel 11-26-2004, 12:28 PM I've never done this, but wondered if anyone has? I've added water to the last little amount though. homesteadmamma 11-26-2004, 12:30 PM No I haven't. Like you, I add a few drops to the last little bit. Dh uses a different shampoo than I do and he dilutes his. niceday 11-26-2004, 12:37 PM I haven't diluted my Shampoo but thats a good thought. I have thought of diluting my dishwashing detergant, has anyone tried it ? lucy979 11-26-2004, 02:16 PM No, I don't. I do use as little as possible though. matt&roxy 11-26-2004, 04:32 PM I had never thought of diluting my shampoo or my dishwashing liquid. I will have to try this out.......:) SewCrafty 11-26-2004, 05:06 PM No I don't dilute my shampo. I bought 2 bottles before I started chemo last year (mid summer), I still have both! :D One is about ½ gone and the other is 3/4 gone. I don't have much hair and I do wash my hair at least 4-5 times a week. So no I don't *need* to dilute my shampo. captclearance 11-26-2004, 06:25 PM I have .. and my dish soap too ! I don't see any difference...... My family uses way too much anyway.... MelinaG 11-26-2004, 08:13 PM I have and it works fine with conditioner too. Melina Michelle 11-26-2004, 09:01 PM Growing up my parents used to do that occasionally, and it would drive us nuts. I don't do it in part because of that, and in part because I really don't use much anyway. baxjul 11-26-2004, 09:20 PM I dilute dish soap, shampoo, conditioner, laundry soap, and liquid fabric softener. I don't really notice any difference. My family uses too much anyway.:reindeer: QuilterMom 11-27-2004, 09:39 AM No. I use an organic/natural brand and you have to use so little that it's not necessary. seadream 11-27-2004, 10:04 AM No. but I do add water to the last bit to make it last a little longer PrairieRose 11-27-2004, 11:35 AM I have tried it but I use a lot of spritz in my fly away, baby fine hair and it just doesn't cut it when washing. I try to use as little shampoo as possible though. valuemom 08-28-2006, 06:51 AM I dilute shampoo, conditioner, shower soap. I save the old bottle and use a funnel. We dilute up to about 1/4 depending on the shampoo, etc. Also I buy dollar store shampoo and 3.99 shampoo. Three days of cheap stuff and 1 day of the better stuff. We have recently decided to buy as much hygiene stuff as possible at the dollar store. celina 08-28-2006, 08:56 AM yep i dilute, shampoo conditioner, dish soap..it all works just fine bumplett 08-28-2006, 09:19 AM great idea......... I'll try it! :) kabin63 08-28-2006, 09:46 AM I have tried this, but decided that I like it a little thicker and use less. I do add water to get the last little bits out though. Also for dish soap, and detergent, and fabric softener when I use it. Most times I just use vinegar instead of fabric softener. staceyy 08-28-2006, 01:10 PM No, I just use half as much. Penascodragonfly 08-28-2006, 01:20 PM I don't dilute until I'm at the bottom of the bottle. We don't use very much each time we shampoo. Libby 08-28-2006, 07:21 PM I've only diluted to get that last little bit out of the bottle be it shampoo, body washes, hand soap, or dish soap. Heck I've done it with the last lil bit of ranch dresssing  cept I used coffee cream or milk to make it. The trick I had to diluting my shampoo/body wash/hand soap/dish soap was wait until there was about 1/4 - 1/8 left and let the HOT water tap run so its nice and hot but not hot enough to melt bottle and put about an inch or two in - this is where it comes to personal preference. I dont shake it vigirously but I give it a good swoosh or two and let it settle. Any more shaking and you get insta-foam :( Then go back to using it like normal. However I noticed this doesnt work for conditioner  I tried to alternate between dollar store shampoo and brand name and I find the dollar store variety ruins my hair....however some of the newer dollar stores are getting low end brand names in there which I KNOW work but its hard for me to find so I can stock pile. But using baby varities - less of it, seems to work almost as well as brand name things - baby body wash, shampoo etc. Try it - everyones hair is different :) lovemycubbycakes 08-28-2006, 09:00 PM I don't delute mine, I do use a very small amount though. It would not be a bad Idea for children and teens though. They waste alot and if its diluted to 1/2 water to 1/2 shampoo, I bet they would get the same results (at least mine would) they dump a load of shampoo in there hands when they use it. I wonder if you could do this with body wash too??? Sasha 08-29-2006, 11:29 AM I've never thought of this, gonna have to try it. :) santoria 08-29-2006, 11:38 AM I do but not really to save (I use my avon shampoo) its to make it actually get into my hair...its so thick that add water and it soaks in better. marei 09-01-2006, 07:04 AM I dilute it only when I get to the bottom of the bottle but may try it. Even though I wash my hair every day it took me a long time to get over shamooing it twice so when I quit doing that it cut my price in half. Then read a hint somewhere to only wash it every other day and just rinse it in the shower the off day and I now do that so cut it in half again. If I dilute it half and half I can cut it in half again. I always use White Rain shampoo and buy only when it is on sale. They have come out with some new ones (here in Canada - you may already have them in the States) Green Apple, Strawberry and Extra Volume and strangely the containers are larger than the previous ones and they were on sale here last week for .99¢ so I bought two of each. elizabethrose 09-02-2006, 01:02 PM I don't mainly bc when I have in the past, I just end up using more to compensate. I do only use a very small amt, like others have mentioned, and, of course when the bottle is abt empty, I'll add water and swish it around, this will give me a couple of more uses out of it. My mother always did this with hand soap, laundry detergent, ect, and it drove me crazy! I could never tell how much product I was actually using. sugarbowlbaby 09-02-2006, 01:33 PM I have a couple of foaming bottles that I would like to try this with. When I do this with liquid hand soap, I put just 1/4 - 1/3 soap in the foamer and fill it the rest of the way with water. If I were able to do that with shampoo, it would be a great savings (except for the fact that because I make my own shampoo for my business, I have an endless supply). pkellyc 09-02-2006, 03:47 PM I used to with 2 girls with waist length hair that would use 1/2 a bottle with one shampoo. They would use so much it would crust on their scalp when they were younger. Now that they are considered adult children living at home they know enough to use less. The best tip I have heard of is to put the shampoo into a pump bottle, ending the over squeeze. I still would like to try it out. Panndy1 09-02-2006, 09:01 PM I add water to the the last of the shamppo, dish soap and liquid hand soap, and shake it so I can use the last little bit out of the bottles. |
