View Full Version : No good deed goes unpunished?
writtenonmybody 12-07-2004, 03:53 PM In the past 7 months I've worked two jobs. One full time outside of the home and one part time - My own business.
Recently I helped a friend get a job at my full time job. He also needed a place to stay and We're helping him out with that until he can get into his apartment without asking for anything in return. He says Jan 1st he'll be able to get into his apartment.
Last week I was out with the stomach flu from my full time job. Today I was laid off.
The timing could not have been any worse! We will not have that extra income which is needed at this time of year.
I have only done half of my Christmas shopping. Thank god all of our bills are paid off! Since this is usually a slow time for my business stuff I can't not rely on it as income.
Ever heard that saying "No good deed goes unpunished?" Why do I feel like it's more than true!
Well, Not enough time to feel sorry for myself. I've already started sending out resumes for another part time or full time job. I can't wait until spring so I can go full time with my business. I'll just have to work alot harder to get what we need now.
Thanks for reading my vent! Between my health and now this I feel like I've complained alot but it's not what I'm trying to do.. it just helps to type it out and release it. Not to mention, the support and advice is always nice!!

I've been working very hard re doing my resume, and sending it out. Monday I'll start going out to the hospitals to apply for HUC and a couple other positions.
mrscornbread 12-10-2004, 01:19 AM Just keep on doin' Lisa. What you probably dont aand cant see right now is the fact that this is actually a blessing in disguise. I know that soon we will be hearing that things are going great. I dont believe in the deed...punishment thing, I do believe that we reap what we sow which is also a positive, if we sow good seeds, we get a good results.

writtenonmybody 12-16-2004, 02:54 AM Hi girls!
Tomorrow I have two interviews for positions I really want! Please keep me in your thoughts and send good vibes my way! I have other interviews lined up for early next week also.
I'm going to bed in a bit finally!
gkp1031 12-16-2004, 09:42 AM Good Luck at the interviews. Let us know how they go, I'm sure you'll find a new job in no time.
writtenonmybody 12-16-2004, 01:43 PM Thank you!
My interviews went very well. I won't know the outcome of them until early next week but I'm happy with how they went.
However, As the days pass I'm getting more and more angry with my last employer! I requested my check the day they let me go last week. However, I still do not have my check. They told me they sent it in the mail. Ugh, I have yet to see it and I really do not trust them at this time. They also told others there the day they let me go that I left on good terms and that I quit. It was an agreement between us that they talked me into to avoid paying me unemployment (we agreed on other terms also). However, I've heard recently from my friend that still works there that one of the higher ups went into his office knowing we were friends and said " I'm sorry if this make is weird to you but we fired her because she missed too many days being sick with the flu." And went on talking about other personal information. First off, yes my friend knows I was sick, it was obvious because he is staying with us and was staying with us during that time. However, they spoke to him about personal information that should be in confidentiality! Which is illegal!
Darlene 12-16-2004, 02:02 PM Geesh being laid off like that & talking behind your back is more than not nice. The way they are acting I'm glad you aren't working for them. How many days did you miss from work & how long have you worked for them?
Hope you find something even better real soon. Take care & hang in there Lisa.
writtenonmybody 12-16-2004, 02:44 PM I worked there for 7 months. I was out of work for 6 days with a doctors notice taking me out of work.
I called them on it and told them that I found it rude and disrespectful to talk with anyone about stuff that should be just between us. I also reminded them it's illegal. They agreed, and denied they said anything of the sort. I expected that. They also said that my check was mailed monday and they have no idea why I don't have it yet. Could be because of christmas time mail. I also reminded them it was illegal to send my check to me by mail in minnesota unless I've requested it to be sent that way. I should be able to pick it up from the office today! I never requested it to be mailed to me.
They also said "we'll talk to him about it" my friend. However, I made it very clear that they already did enough, and are causing too much drama already over it. Again, it's a personal issue between us and it doesn't involve him. And if he's now involved it's because they involved him and they just need to drop it. I hope they don't go back to him again. I know he's not lying about anything because they did say they went into his office and said "we're sorry if this is weird" They did admitt to that but couldn't remember the exact words they used when talking with him. I'm sure they talked about it to egg him on to see what he would say about it and maybe get some feedback on what I'm saying about it but they obviously went about it the wrong way if that's what they were trying to do.
Darlene 12-16-2004, 02:47 PM ooh I'd be hopping mad Lisa.
writtenonmybody 12-16-2004, 03:00 PM Yeah I'm pretty angry over it. I can't wait to have my check and be done with them. I worked my butt off for them including doing emails and work from home without pay because I took my job very seriously. Dumb of me to put that much into it now looking back at it. I did alot for them and that's something I also mentioned in the phone conversation and their reply.. "we know you were a hard worker and did alot for us". I almost lost it then but I thought to stay calm because it doesn't change the fact that I'm not working there anymore.
writtenonmybody 12-16-2004, 03:02 PM Ok, I feel better now that I've vented it out... LOL Thank you!
Crossing my fingers for my new possibilities!
i.m.cheap 12-16-2004, 03:17 PM I am hoping you find a job working for someone NICER. What is your part-time home business?

I started a home organizing business and I'm really enjoying that. However, I'm not ready to go full time with that until I'm alittle more established. I also host workshops on home organzing, and less toxic cleaning for the home. It's a slow time of the year for me right now with christmas and stuff. I have however, gotten a few clients coming up in Jan, and so on. So I think as the months start to get warmer here I'll start getting more clients again.
I had a couple clients in Nov, into Dec. But the last couple weeks of Dec. I didn't make any appointments because of the holidays and my full time job. Now I wish I made some of those appts!
