View Full Version : How much soda do you let your kids drink?
MANDERS 05-16-2002, 09:14 AM I personaly don't let them drink much at all.DD will get a coke if we go to Mcdonalds or other fast food restraunts, but I sometimes get her milk instead.Ds doesn't get any or hardly any,he'll get a couple of sips of mine but that's it.We keep lots of cokes in the house, but they are for mostly when we go out so we don't go buy one.Reason why I'm asking is it seems like I see a lot of parents letting there kids just tank up on cokes.I was raised where I had an unlimited amount, but would rather have my kids drink milk water or juice. What do you do.
Michelle 05-16-2002, 10:00 AM We have just stopped drinking soday here so it's not an issue any more. However, before that, we only had caffeine-free soda, and I would let them have a cup for special occasions only or sips from mine.
Recently I've been able to get them to drink water with snacks or meal time. I let them have 1 juice per day, milk or calcium-fortified OJ with meals (sometimes I let them have chocolate milk), and water between meals.

QuilterMom 05-16-2002, 01:07 PM None - we don't purchase soda at all. Dh and I will have a soda if we are out to eat somewhere or if we grab fast food while we're out and about. We always have juice for ds no matter where we are. We have let him tast Sprite and Coke before and he spit both of them out and told us they were yucky.
Jerseygirl 05-16-2002, 06:26 PM Dss gets it only if we are out to dinner and then only if it is sugar and caffeine free. Soda doesn't make sense with ritalin.

bamamomto4 05-31-2002, 02:08 PM Ashley (she's 12) has more than the other 2 kids.She might drink 3 a week....
Katie(she's 3) would rather have milk or Kool-aid but if we eat fast food, she'll have sprite.
Jackson is 1 and has only tasted mine a few times. He likes it,ALOT,but I won't let him have but only a sip here and there.
We mostly drink tea,and water, and the kids have kool-aid,tea (decaf),milk, water, and juice.
CAGmomof2 05-31-2002, 03:12 PM Unfortunatly my DD who is only 2 years old has way to much soda!! She even knows how to say Dr.Pepper!!
I am trying to regulate it to only one or two sips a day !!
But it seems like she drinks one soda can by herself in one day and I know she doesn't but I really should not let her have any at such an early age!! :(
So starting now She and I are only going to have water and milk and juice no soda's!! :)
AmyBoz 05-31-2002, 06:28 PM I've got a little milk fiend on my hands. We don't have soda in the house anymore, so her favorite drink is milk. Even if we are out (on the rare occasion) to McDonald's she will say "Milk? Milk?" (She's 15 months) Of course, she'll drink the orange drink that they have and she'll love it, but at home or at Gramma and Grampa's or her other Grampa's, she has milk. She also will have some juice when I just think she's had enough milk for the day (like 5 glasses), but I saw my sil fill my nephews up with juice and them puke it everywhere, and I can't get that image from my mind.
CAGmomof2 06-01-2002, 11:02 AM All my DD who is 24 months old will drink milk and sometimes water more thank she will drink juice and if we have any soda's she will drink sodas more than she will drink her water which is her second favorite drink!! She loves Milk she litterly drinks about 10 sippy cups full of milk a day!! :)
milach 06-01-2002, 02:49 PM None here too! Ds is 2 and just hates the stuff (thank God!!). I'll give him a little sip and he cringes at the taste. All he gets here is juice, milk, and on occasion, iced tea. He's definitely a juice feind, though. I never had soda growing up until I was almost a teenager, so I think ds can live without it too. But beer on the other hand, ugh!! He's like the drunk after a party- trying to get any last sip he can out of the empties.
