As spring is upon us here in Nevada we've been blessed to have money available to start doing things to our home that have been needed for 2 or 3 years. It seems each time we express a desire to get something repaired, the money just appears, lOL. Never any extra but nearly exactly the amount we needed for the repair.

Our house, garage doors, roofs, were all in what I consider squalorous condition. We were ashamed and embarrassed of how it looked.

I did a major bulk trash pickup back in November and that really helped the yard and to clear out some much needed space.

A few weeks ago we were able to buy one new garage door. We still need one more but we will save for that one.

Today the roofing company is here to repair all of the leaky roofs in the garages.

Yesterday my son and I cleaned up one of the garages. We mainly put things where they belong and sorted and now we will all begin the task of putting all of that stuff in boxes to move to another garage. We will be saving up to put insulation, a ceiling, and drywall in that building.

It feels so good to actually start making our property look like it should and not be in disrepair.

Is anyone else doing any home repair or remodeling?

Oh I am so happy for you dolphin. I bet when you realized that you could do this, it just made you feel like a million bucks?:smball:

We have been doing home repairs now for several years. Dh is doing most of them himself. I have helped reroof the garage and have done some painting on the trim. We are also going to do some new landscaping this spring and summer.

We don't have any set plans, but the projects we NEED to do are:

1. Rebuild our back porch. When we bought our place, there was a deck on the back of the house that eventually fell down. Under the deck were the remains of a concrete back porch smashed to rubble (so the deck would fit at door level). We want to rebuild the concrete area.

2. Replace our tub with either a new tub and tile walls or a tub kit. I prefer to use a tub and tile walls, but money may be the deciding factor. Our present tub has lost its finish entirely -- we are down to a rusty patch in the middle -- very gross. I know we could repaint it, and we might do that if the $$$ situation gets to looking like a new tub is out of the question. I'm hoping the tax refund money will cover most of this project.

3. Repair the ceiling in our LR -- the plaster skim coat is falling down in big hunks.

4. Remove the dropped ceiling in one bedroom and repair existing plaster ceiling. Also dry wall the area where the dropped ceiling prevented previous remodeler (!?!?!?!?!) from drywalling to ceiling............... (go figure).

The previous homeowner did a "slap-dash" remodel on the place and we are finding all his shortcuts and misdeeds.

It is very satisfying isn't it to get a major project tackled and finished?!? Have fun!

We're not currently doing any repairs, but I have quite the handy dandy list of things we could be doing. :D

Abbreviated: Drain spouts and gutters, finish paint (mostly trim), get rid of bee's nest that prevented the completion of painting:toothy: , touch up where needed on front porch (kids--ugh), repair a few leaks in roof (temporary fix-tar), and put a "roof" on the chimney pipe to prevent more water damage.
We, too, are dealing with the previous owners "slap-dash half-a$$ed" remodeling.errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This is what I'd like to do...

knock out side steps and close entry from side of house, then screen in the L shaped porch so I can keep the neighborhood kids from "hanging out and getting in trouble" on the side of my home. If they wanna hang out they can do it on the front porch where I can keep an eye on things! Rebuild the deck on the back, Replace the roof on the garage and clean out the mess in there. I'll probably get the garage cleaned out during "village spring clean up", but the rest will have to wait.

We are doing a lot of home repairs this year. In fact, we have a guy coming out today to give us an estimate on fixing our garage's ceiling, and repairing our deck.

We aren't doing any spring repairs/remodeling, but we will be in the summer when we have more time.
