View Full Version : What is your most expensive utility? homesteadmamma 03-25-2005, 01:03 PM Ours is heating our home, which is done my natural gas. QuilterMom 03-25-2005, 01:07 PM Electricity, but it's far cheaper than natural gas here (I know it's just the opposite for most people). jlxian 03-25-2005, 02:28 PM Propane. We fill our 500 gallon tank about 2x a year and it always horrifies me to write that check. Last time we filled the tank was in November. We paid $1.42 a gallon which included a 10 cent discount if we paid within 5 days. It was over $500. We heat with propane and our hot water tank is propane. But we also burn a lot of wood for heat which cuts down our propane usage. I guess this will just continue to go up in price. Mamawolf 03-25-2005, 02:54 PM Electricity. So glad to not be a gas user here right now! SewCrafty 03-25-2005, 03:00 PM I don't really know, Jack takes care of the bills. But I think it is electricity. PrairieRose 03-25-2005, 03:03 PM Our home is heated with natural gas (along with our hot water heater and stove top and oven), that's our biggest utility. :( Katybird 03-25-2005, 03:39 PM My home is total electric so that is my highest utility. We had natural gas before we bought this and I think that the electricy is a bit cheaper than the gas was to heat with. Missy 03-25-2005, 04:18 PM natural gas. i'd love to switch over to all electricity. seadream 03-25-2005, 11:13 PM heating..our heat and hot water run off the oil furnance.. thrifty gal 03-25-2005, 11:19 PM Electricity. Mom23boys 03-26-2005, 01:30 AM Electricity!! Everything we have uses electricity to run....stove, oven, dryer, air/heat, etc. I have tried to keep it down, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Hollyhandi 03-26-2005, 07:24 PM Electricity is way high here. Mommy2five 03-27-2005, 05:22 AM We live in goverment housing so we don't pay electric or water. We are getting RIPPED OFF for phone though. There is only one provider they will allow on post and I pay over $120 monthly atleast, a few months ago it was almost 160 because of the exchange rate . A local call isn't even free here. It costs extra to call a cell phone too. It costs more for me to call my husband at work 20 miles away than it does for me to call the states :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: rebecca 03-27-2005, 07:40 AM Electric. Dotchi 04-09-2005, 06:34 PM Our water is well water and we take our trash to the dump (no trash service here) so electricity... $133 equal payment plan. But if you count in gasoline for vehicles, I pay $170 every two weeks for gas to drive to and from work. It works out to $14 a day in gas, round trip. Heather 04-09-2005, 07:23 PM Heating...the price of furnace oil this year was so high!:( debbiepittman 05-06-2005, 06:27 PM Usually, it's the electricity though gas gets higher a few months in winter. Debbie fearoflight 05-06-2005, 06:56 PM Usually, it's the electricity though gas gets higher a few months in winter. Same here in Maryland. beach_mom 05-06-2005, 07:02 PM Electricity here :( bamamomto4 05-16-2005, 03:32 AM Electricity..just paid a power bill and it was $118...down from $148 last month :D We do have a propane tank and get 100 gallons once a year and that last us all winter and then some of the next.We use it only when it's really cold or the power goes out...It's just our back up heat source. That'd be a situation where I'd consider replacing the house phone with a cellphone. Or even the new vonage. If you have DSL, you can use vonage as your phone service for like $25/month including long distance. TwirlingRainbowSky 05-16-2005, 01:34 PM Gas in the winter and electric in the summer. Mojjo 05-18-2005, 11:02 PM ours is phone...we are a cell only family...but electricity is a close second. Michele Annette 05-19-2005, 06:47 PM Furnace oil for us too was our most expensive utility. I'm glad we don't have to use any of the oil after heating season, but still! |
