You all know that I take in sick/ailing kitties. Mainly the babies once they have been weaned from thier mom and just can't seem to get the hang of it or get sick.
I finally figured out a *formula* to help them along. I use KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement) for thier milk, because if they are sick and little, they need all the nutrition they can get. I also found a great use for my coffee grinder. I grind up kitten chow, add some baby rice cereal, mix up just like you would for a human baby either with water or the KMR.
This last lot of kittens I brought in were so weak that I made it extra soupy and put in a syringe and fed them that way until they could eat on thier own.
When my dog Peachie used to get a stomach virus (she was prone to them) I would boil chicken, 1 potato and some carrots and a stalk of celery. I would also make some white rice. Take out the celery and throw away (it was only to flavor the broth). Take the chicken off the bone and put through my grinder. I would mash up the potato and carrots and mix all together. Then add some (just a tad) of the broth.
Anyone else have thier own way of making up inexpensive pet food?
