View Full Version : Who has read Your Money or Your life
homesteadmamma 06-08-2005, 06:04 PM This book was a book that really helped us get to where we are today. I loved the book.
It showed us how many hours dh had to work in order to purchase something and it showed us how to retire early.
Its really too bad Joe Dominguez passed away so young. He had so much to say and to give the world.
Mamawolf 06-08-2005, 07:12 PM I did, but a lot of it didn't pertain to us.
Mojjo 06-08-2005, 08:37 PM I haven't but I just looked it up on the local library catalogue and I'm getting it Saturday. I'm reading Simple Living...but this sounds good too.
forestdale 06-08-2005, 08:50 PM I've read it and I thought it was excellent. DH found it particulalry interesting and it convinced him that this way of life is the right one for us.
Mamaw 06-08-2005, 10:43 PM When you all refer to stockpiles, what are you referring too?
Do you mean buying in bulk and storing items up?

Yeah, pretty much. Like if you can get mustard for free after coupons, buy a whole bunch. For me that's about 4 or 5 if I have enough coupons. That way you have extras to last a while. But you obviously don't want to stockpile at regular price.
handmerounds 06-09-2005, 12:30 AM I bough and read it, after someone here at FV recommended it. I am so thankful for this website. It has really opened my eyes!!
rebecca 06-09-2005, 05:44 AM I have read the book and like homesteadmama I always think about how many hours I would have to work for a certain item. Than I try to think how I can get it cheaper or do I really need.
Hollyhandi 06-09-2005, 10:49 AM Now I have another book to find.
Good thing its summer and I like to read with a cool drink out doors.:D
Never heard of this one at all.
Thanks for the heads up
QuilterMom 06-09-2005, 10:57 AM I read it years ago and did not enjoy it as much as other books. I've been wondering if I re-read it if I would enjoy it now.
Mom23boys 06-09-2005, 11:05 AM I have not read it, but may look for it at the library next time I go.
kaykwilts 06-10-2005, 06:06 PM My library does not have that book. I need to check and see if they can get it on interlibrary loan for me.
waterlover 06-11-2005, 11:34 AM I bought this book at the thrift store a few months ago and just recently finished it. I made my graph paper yesterday and am going to start keeping track of all expenses, interest earned and income. :fish:
i.m.cheap 06-18-2005, 11:02 AM This is a wonderful book. I wish I would have read it when I was 20. I have spent so much money foolishly in my life. We have become much more frugal in the last three years. We still owe one more year of payments on our car, then no more car payments for us. We will NEVER buy another new car. No more purchases on credit EVER.
marjorie 06-23-2005, 09:05 PM I too think it's a wonderful book. I have found that if I read it every year or two I get more out of it. I have purchased 3 copies... all of them lent, none returned. A person in my area offered one on Freecycle today, and we were both thrilled!
Cindy R 09-19-2005, 09:19 PM I have one book for myself and one that I loan out. Also have the "companion" book, "Get a Life" which is also good. It has more of how to put YMOYL into action. Tells stories of how others did it.
Great book. Really makes you change how you think about money and life. Really is what started me on simple living.
crrzygrrl73 10-26-2005, 08:10 PM I am in the process of reading it right now. I want to finish it, but am finding it to be somewhat of a "dry" read. Hopefully I will find some inspiration as I get further along in the book :).
crunchycon 10-30-2005, 08:08 AM If you're finding YMOYL a trifle dry, look for its sequel, Getting a Life by Blix and Heitmiller. It has stories of people who have actually applied the nine steps and how the program affected their lives. There is a pretty good overview of the nine steps - I still recommend reading the original book, but Getting a Life may help you get started.
crrzygrrl73 10-30-2005, 05:01 PM Thanks for the recomendation! I'll be honest, real-life applications strike more of a chord with me! I will look for it!
