Did this book promote thrift for you or were you way ahead of Amy's book when it came to frugality?

Although frugal somewhat, this book really did promote thriftiness and frugality for me. Although some of her stuff I would never do, it was so good to finally read about frugality and to see that others were pretty radical when it came to thriftiness.

When I first read her book, I thought oh I wouldn't do that. Guess what? I did do many of those things over the years and I don't find them "extreme" anymore at all.

The TWG definitely promoted thrift to me. Like Sara, I thought a lot of the stuff Amy D mentioned were crazy, but now I do those "crazy" things. :D

When I first read it I also thought........no way would I do that!!!! It definately was an eye opener for me, I guess I really didn't have a good understanding of what being thrifty/frugal was.......even though I thought I did!! After reading it I have a brand new respect for it and I also find mysef doing some of those "no way am I doing that" things!!!!:D

I love all three of her books but there are some things that I still think are a bit too extreme for me. Some of the hints I had already done but some of my "spending" patterns and thought processes are difficult to change. I find myself re-reding portions of her books to keep in the right frame of mind. LOL

While I thought of myself as frugal, Amy and the TWG helped me look more creatively at ways of frugality--- bread sacks for "rubber pants" for the baby? I would never have thought of that. And even though I would not have gone to that extreme, she stirred my frugal creative juices! I devoured all she wrote.

She helped me change a lot of my wicked, spending ways. I would never go as extreme as her but it got me on the right track!:toothy:

I love her book. It did promote frugality within our home. There are still some things I wouldn't do, but most of them I would or do!

The TWG was/is a wonderful guide for me. She is very clear that some things aren't for everyone and she's right :D there are things that I wouldn't do. I liked her idea of choosing one new idea a week and one new skill per month. That way you don't get overwhelmed and when you've mastered one thing you'll be ready to try another one.

I have learned so much from her ideas.:smball:

I discovered frugal message boards first, then on their recommendation I read the books. I thought they were a little extreme in the begining. Now I want to re-read or even purchase them so I can study and learn more daily.

I was already headed in the frugal direction when I first read the TWG. I would say that was about ten years ago. I do reread them from time to time. It did make me examine what it was costing for me to have a full time job.

The TWG did promote frugality for me. I was trying to be frugal and save our family money but her newsletters gave me the inspiration and guidance I needed to start being more thrifty.

TWG was my first introduction to frugality. I read it when I was single and paying a very low rent. I thought it was interesting but that it didn't apply to me. I kept my copy, though, and when dh and I married and later I got pregnant with dd, I pulled it back out and re-read it and started to make changes. I also found the village at that time, and the rest is history!
