I don't remember how I discovered the TG. But I was almost 40 years old.

I had heard of her in a magazine article. I think Family Circle. But I cant honestly tell you how long ago. I have read all three of the books but I need to revisit them. I still do alot of things that Amy would never, ever do..... Like grabbing that magazine when in the checkout line! AUGHHH...WHY do I do that! LOL

I discovered the TG by reading an article in Parade magazine but I've been using her principles of saving money long before I knew about her.

I found out about the book from another site I frequent, but wasnt too interested until I came here:toothy:
I bought the complete TWG just last Sunday and its very interesting. There are lots of things in the book that I would NEVER dream of doing, but have also found lots I do want to try.
Amy sounds A LOT like my mother...we were VERY poor. My mother was single with 4 children and she did probably 99% of what Amy did and without her frugalty, we would have never made it.

I heard about it on another site, and then I bought my copy in Jan 2003

My very frugal sister sent me a copy for Christmas (a 3-in-1 copy) at exactly the time when I needed it. That was 2 1/2 years ago and I still feel like I've only made baby steps, but I love to reread it.

I heard about it a couple years ago online. I finally checked the Complete version out of the library a couple weeks ago. I'm halfway through III and I've really enjoyed it. When we break the 10K mark on our debt, I'm treating myself to my own copy.

I saw Amy on the Phil Donahue show about 10-12 yrs. ago. I subscribed to her newsletter and then bought the books as they came out.

In 1998. I was reading a lot of books about homeschooling and so many of them touched on homeschooling on a budget/cheaply. TWG was one of the resources mentioned in several of the books.

I kept seeing it being mentioned at a frugal message board, like this one, and wondered what all the fuss was about. I bought the books, and now I know! Love them!

I heard about it on this board and had to get it, on sale of course!
I already did alot of the stuff but still read it whenever I feel like going on a spending spree..stops me every time!

I believe I learned about TWG via the Dollar Stretcher.

Found the Complete Tightwad Gazette about 7 or 8 years ago when I was browsing the library shelves for books about living on less money. I was trying to figure out a way to quit work and stay at home...the library was next to my work and at lunch hours I would sit and devour it (well, not quite, I did eat regular food at my desk :D ) Anyway I used alot of her ideas and loved her sense of humor. I didn't get to stay home immediately...it took me until last year. But I thank Amy for her enthusiasm and I recommend this book to newbies and not-so-newbies at frugality.
And, I freely admit that I don't recycle tinfoil as often as I should

I saw the "Parade" article in 1991. She reminded me of my mom, who was very frugal. I was so impressed, I sent after her newsletter. I've been hooked ever since.

Hi, I'm fairly new to this group, and it's the conversation on TG that drew me in. I also first connected with TG through the Parade article; I subscribed at that time, ordered all back issues. I still have all the original newsletters, more out of nostalgia's sake than anything else, I guess, but I really like using the bound versions for everyday use, because of the helfpul index.

As others have said, much of her stuff is very useful, and some not so much, depending on your personal circumstances. I mostly return to reading the TG for motivational purposes! :D

Peace, Valerie
