Gas here his 2.99. They just had an interesting segment on our local news explaing about the swamped refineries. The gentleman speaking said to expect it to get worse before it gets better. He urged WI residents not to panic and swamp the stations because there are shortages. He also urged people to do the speedlimit and to please not go if its not necessary to conserve gas. Some other areas of WI are well over 3.00.

I was waiting until I was on E to get gas because the dealer told me I need a close to empty tank to change to the ethanol 85 gas. I should have been close to E after my 30 mile trip to work tomorrow. The only station that sells the E85 gas with in 50 miles is about 8 miles from work. I thought the .50 savings a gallon would be worth the trip.

I must confess though that after seeing the news I will be gassing up this morning locally after orientation at school. I have a tad under 1/4 a tank. That will take me 1 trip to work. I'm not taking the chance and will put 20$ in this morning.

I was planning to take Ds thrift saling sat. We will NOT  be taking the 30 mile trip to the big town to thrift sale. We will be taking the guys advice on tv and doing our part to conserve gas. I hope others will also do their part to conserve also.

I don't believe that most Americans would conserve anything. We are just too used to having anything we want.

We've been conserving here, gas is being used to & from work and one trip for groceries. All errands are combined. We've always done that tho.
Wish people would car pool more, everyone likes the convienence of being able to go where they want when they want...

Has anyone seen closed gas stations yet --- just out of gas altogether?

I just heard from a business contact in the southeast (SC) who said there are closed stations there, and a fellow in my office says that a local station is out of gas.

This could get interesting.............

I conserve as much as I know how to do. I don't speed, I don't floor the pedal when I leave a stop, I turn the engine off at the bank in the drive through, and I try to anticipate upcoming stop signs and turns and just lay off the gas a ways back to slow down as much as possible before using the brake. The people behind me will just have to be patient.

It's getting bad. I filled up at the gas station below work yesterday after I dropped Paige off at daycare it was $2.49 that was at 7:20 shortly after they opened. When I left work at 4 to go get Paige it was $2.60 when I drove back past it after picking her up to go home the had the prices down again. This morning I noticed it wat $2.80, $2.88 & $2.96 at that one now. It's rumored by some of the convience store workers that it will be over $3 for the cheap stuff if not by the end of today, then by this weekend. :bang: I've got to where now I try to get everything done during the week when traveling home from work and just leave the car parked on Saturday's and Sunday's.

I've certainly been trying to do my part to conserve. I'm staying at home as much as possible, combining all errands and shopping trips, heck I've even driven 55 in a 70! Now, if you knew how hard that was for me to do you'd really appreciate me for that ;)

Gas here in Western NC just hit $3.19 and that was at the cheap (hot spot) in town. I do not know what we will do. We heat with gas also.

It's $3.29 here this morning. We're supposed to go on a trip to another state starting Sat. to check up on elderly relatives. DH almost backed out last night when  prices hit $2.75 -- hope he agrees to go ahead and call it off when he gets home. The big problem is with him starting a new job it will be another year before we have time to go again.

I have been sick the last two days, so I'm really not interested in going anywhere right now -- except to bed. The problem is when I lay down is when I get really sick.

we're only using our car to get groceries and for our weekend yard saling/thrift storing. We've been walking everywhere else, including to work.

Our supplier of natural gas was doing the prepay option due by sept 14th. I'd not yet sent my check or signed the contract. I promptly signed and mailed it today. I'm not sure of the likelyhood but I'm a little worried they could back out of the prepay if it wasn't already paid for. Most of the winter heating suppliers did NOT do prepay at all this year. I decided to take the money from my ef instead of waiting unitil the pay check on 9/12 just in case.
On another note I did put 20$ in my tank this morning at 2.99 on the way to the school orientation. Well I was a day early! It's tomorrow. I'm glad I went though because my car was steaming. Better today than on my 30 mile commute to work tomorrow. The kiddos and I walked the 4 miles home.

Yeah, it does stink. I'm glad I filled up on Monday evening, even though I already had a 1/2 tank because I anticipated it going up. It was I think 2.34 or something, and this morning it was 2.75. Yuck. I know it has made me change the way I do things in my own life. For example, if I had an overdue book, I'd just go return it, but now, I wait until I have another reason to be on that part of town. It is cheaper to pay the dime a day than to make a special trip.

The hot spot here today was $2.47/gal...we waited 5 mins or so to fill up. I have never seen a gas station with that many people trying to fuel up.

The highest we seen was $2.79....and heard its going up :(

I am rethinking every trip I take.We live at least 10 mins from a town that has any kind of store. We'll be combining all trips.I use to anyways, but if I needed bread today but knew I had to go to the bank Friday..I'd just make 2 trips..NOT anymore....
trying to also make Steve drive Ashleys car to work. He drives a 4X4 and she has a honda civic....way cheaper to drive and he better lol

when i went to pick dks up from the babysitter, it was $246 ant exxon, $2.47 at wawa and $2.51 at crown, that was on monday. the wawa was out of gas. why they still had their sign lit, i don't know. the line at exxon was out onto the street so i went to crown. paid more, but in that instance i thought the extra i paid to buy gas and not wait was better than fighting to get into teh gas station.
now it was 2.65 at exxon, 2.55 at wawa (who now has gas) and 3.01 at crown. when we ran errands this morning we went past a bp and it was 3.65! a friend wants us to come visit this weekend, but i'm not sure we will. though i do want to see her sometime soon so i can give her her baby gift. she's due in dec. if we go we'll take my neon instead of the van.

i filled up yesterday at lunch just to be on the safe side and im glad i did--yesterday i paid $2.56 and today it rose to $3.09. i heard some places were worse than that. glad i didnt wait. i have an 84 mile round trip every day. fortunately i took friday off this week to make me a 4 day weekend and im hoping things are better (guess i can keep my fingers crossed) by mid next week when i should be on empty again.
oh and this is in west virginia btw

The place where I paid $2.48 yesterday was $3.29 when I left work. A few places are still $2.95 & $2.99 for now and driving home they were packed. People are parked on the side of the road and the cars are nose to nose at the tanks. (Sometimes I think it would be easier if all gas tanks on all vehicles were on the same side or still under the license plate....that is just making things harder for people to get it. 3 or 4 cities with in about 30 miles of us are reporting they are out of the cheap stuff and going quick on everything else. A few places I passed already had plastic around the hoses because they were out of gas. Joe's truck is well below a half a tank and he doesn't get off until late tonight so I thought about filling up the containers for the lawnmower so he would have gas tomorrow to go get Paige at daycare (just in case it goes up to $4 by tomorrow afternoon)

A friend just called. She said 4 gas stations in town are out of gas (thats 4 out of about 11) and the other places are up to $3.29 now...one reported to be out before 6pm....it's 5 now...and no one knows when they will get any in.
There were people lined up today around noon,I would hate to be in town now trying to get gas.....

My DD lives 3 hours away and is expecting. I need to conserve all I can now so that I can go to help her when the baby comes. This is certainly making life difficult. But I do believe we all need to learn to conserve. We in the states need to learn to say no to ourselves. At least I sure do! LOL

So far, most of our gas stations are out of gas. The ones that are opened are expected to be closed by tomorrow. I have 1/2 tank, and no money until tomorrow! We'll just have to wait and see!

Also, what frightens me the most is how many people will lose their jobs because of the higher gas prices. As costs rise, people will not spend as freely which will certainly affect many employers. I can see people not eating out as much and some of those places will let staff go. I know my hair stylist is concerned as everyone is trying to limit trips and they may begin to limit their visits to her as well. Hang in there all!

I use to wait till my gas tank got down to 1/4 of a tank, sometimes less, and then I would fill up. I always hope the next day gas prices will be cheaper. Now that we're facing a gas shortage, I'll be filling up no matter what the cost when my tank is 1/2 full. I'll be gassing up at Mobil where I can save .05 per gallon using my speedpass, Walmart, Costco, Sam's Club, and any other place I find gas cheaper in my local area.

Another station is out tonight. The lady told a guy Steve works with she didnt expect any gas till the END of next week.

My sister, who lives near Mobile waited 50 mins tonight to get gas....I forgot what they paid...cost $74 to fill up a Chevy truck....she said they had the National Guard out with M16's  I personally think thats a little extreme .....??! It was on their local news that the garbage pickup was not running, most places are closed, most out of gas,....

Another friend said he got gas and the station was limiting everyone to 10 gals!

Is everyone as worried as I am?! This is just unreal....
I told Steve to take any overtime he was offered, not that we expect it to be offered :sigh:

Joe just got home and said that of all the gas stations between here and his work (11 that I know of off hand) 2 were still open, the rest had plastic over the hoses and one (the one right below our neighborhood a mile away) had the truck there filling it up. After much discussion on the subject of the possible shortage, he went back out since one of the 2 he passed is open 24 hours to try and fill his truck up (it was one of the few that was still 2.99). I hope they are still open when he gets there. If not then I may be taking him to work Friday when I go in since we both have to be there at the same time and he is less than a half a mile from the daycare. Then Sat & Sun I told him to take my car and leave his truck parked.

We've decided that since he is off tomorrow he will do no driving in his truck, instead (since he has to drive in and pick up Paige tomorrow night from day care as I will be working), he is going to use my car and take her to day care and me to work, and not go get Paige until a half hour before they close, and come back to my work and wait on me to close up. That way he won't have to put 25 extra miles on his truck, and at the same time tomorrow he is going to change my coolant and his oil. The only errand we have tomorrow (or Joe has since I will be at work) is to drive across town and pay our rent. Gas stay's like this much longer we are going to pay 32 cent and mail that as well as the water bill from now on......lol

There are already several stations out here but they siad they should have gas by late tomorrow, except for Ingles who says they have no idea when they are getting any. It was $2.49 yesterday and $2.99 today, I hate to see what it is tomorrow when I go out.
They are supposed to have the piplines up and running with generators by late tomorrow so this shouldn't last long and really wouldn't be happening now if people would just use their heads and not freak out.

Today gas was 2.67 reg, 2.77 plus, 2.87 supreme, and that was the cheapest around.......I hope that being on the west coast, the prices will not go up as much as I have been seeing on the news.. In GA there was a station that was selling gas at 5.87 for the cheap stuff.. YIKES!!!  Thank goodness that DH just inherited his moms T-Bird that gets 27.5 miles to the gallon...... I think that I will have to use the T-Bird more often than not for a while.. The van does well, but I know the car does a lot better....

We have been trying to conserve. Our two vehicles are diesel and we really are pushing for the vegetable oil conversion and tune up for our car that DH will do himself. We are seriously saving for it. Until then I am still choosing to walk as many days as I can to work. We filled up my car yesterday.

We are going on a camping trip in NY to meet DH's cousin, two of our friends from highschool (who we haven't seen in two years) and My Aunt and cousins, who I haven't seen in three years. We are only going for two nights and this will probably be the last time for a very long time that we get to see them. :( With us living so far away from one another, it's getting increasingly difficult to find the money for such luxuries as traveling. With also not having our own house yet we are having a very difficult decision of staying or moving...and where to. I want a large garden to help sustain ourselves and to have alternative sources of energy in our home. But until then we can only do as much as we can.

one of our regular customers came in and said she knows the manager of the BP across the street and he has yet to hear when his truck will come in to refill the tanks, and he's been told by the owner to expect another increase. Still glad I filled up Tuesday AM, Joe was able to get to the one that was still opened after midnight and fill his truck up for $65....now the $48 that it use to cost doesn't sound to bad.

After tomorrow I won't have to drive again until Tues. and then I will just have to drive 3 day's next week so hopefully I will be good on my gas mileage until it comes down at least a little bit.

I was kinda disgusted yeseterday at work!! Not one single client I talked to had any plans to curtail their driving in the least little bit with the current gas shortage. I was really suprised! Now today I'll do some elderly clients and I'm wondering if the results will be different.
We found out last night that we will have unexpected visitors from out of state. We know they will want to go to the town 30 miles away to drink. We haven't seen then in 18 months and do want to see them. I think the game plan will be to take Dh's Kia and suggest a cheaper club to meet at. I'll drink soda to save some $$$.

It's funny....Some places are still on $2.99 for the low, one store is still $2.99 for all grades, the ones that were the cheapest are now the most expensive (these are the grocery stores that raised there prices 3 times in one day and the next day jumped 50 cent more for a total of 81 cent in one day eventhough they never got another truck in), the one near my house which was 2.99 when they got a tank in Wed. night was $2.94 when I got home yesterday evening, and one of the ones right off the interstate, instead of the normal 8 to 10 cent increase between grades, their's is $2.99 for the low grade, $3.14 for mid and $3.55 for high......if some of the ones that use to be the most expensive can come down, why the heck can't the ones that use to be the lowest come back down :bang:

Most of the stations I seen today were $3.09 for reg. 3 had plastic on the pumps.

A lot of people at Wal-Mart were buying water. Our WM has a culligan water dispenser in the back of the store, for you to fill like the 5 gal jugs and so forth.....there were NINE people standing in line to fill up jugs! One lady asked a worker if they had anymore of the 5 gal jugs in the back....he went to check!

We heard someone say a store in Oxford (30 mins from us) was charging $10 for a bag of ice! That is UNREAL!!!!

You are very right! I think jobs will get scarce as the money is spent on gas instead of stuff that we can do without at least temporarily.

I'm thinking people will be putting more on the credit cards and continuing to spend, using the cards "for emergency" basically to cover the shortfall in the budget from the higher gas prices.

Which means that when interest prices rise (which generally follows along with inflation which is BOUND to happen when something pushes prices up like the gas increase)

they will be SOOOOOOOOO stuck.

Yesterday there were huge lineups at the gas pumps on and off thru the day.

I'm sticking to my keep the gas no lower than a half a tank-- looking to fill when it goes past 3/4 full.
