I will have to tape the show. homesteadmamma 09-13-2005, 08:00 PM Did anyone watch this? I missed the first 20 mins. I did watch the rest of it though. The couple with the 2 kids - the mom was such an enabler it was incredible. Why she even went on the show when all she wanted to keep saying was her kids were such good kids. bee9984 09-13-2005, 08:23 PM I watched it:) ...the first 20 minutes was about a couple where the husband thought they were 40,000 in debt and his wife told him that they were actually 160,000 in debt. The wife didn't tell him about her past student loan bills and some credit card debt etc , they have one child with twins on the way. He was shocked, understandable but she said she didn't know how to tell him before this show. Yeah, I couldn't believe when the mother was going on how good her kids were which I am sure they are good kids and when Oprah asked her why did she write in if she is just going to defend the way the kids are living ( can't remember her exact words) the mother said that she wanted them to be prepared for when they are out on their own as they will be getting ready for college soon etc. The 3rd couple who were going to get married really bothered me though...it was like she was right , he was wrong , I got the impression that she was holding over his head that if he didn't get the finances straightened she would leave him or not marry him and I honestly don't think that she thought dave was going to tell them not to get married or at least not yet till they get some debt paid and can agree on finances etc..........Or was that tears of relief ?:toothy: Just joking, I honestly don't think that they were tears of relief. I was kind of dissappointed with the show though, I was expecting a little bit more information... Hugs, Heather:) mom22grls 09-13-2005, 08:42 PM Me, too, Heather. He did have a commercial at the end, though, for the website. And, Oprah said they were going to do follow-ups. Maybe he'll be on later & be more helpful. Was the 60 minutes like this, too? I never got to see that one. :( slowtypinwoman 09-13-2005, 08:54 PM The 60 Mins was very interesting. I have to confess though, this was the first time I had ever seen him. I TEVO'd the Oprah show and will watch it later. bee9984 09-13-2005, 09:05 PM Originally posted by mom22grls Me, too, Heather. He did have a commercial at the end, though, for the website. Or did he have another interview with 60 minutes?...lol.....anyhow I found it really interesting more so then todays show as it was more one on one interview instead of him dealing with families.... I still need to get his book, I guess i will have to call the english book store here and order it:) Hugs, Heather Mom23boys 09-13-2005, 09:14 PM I was shocked at the mother who thought it was ok to give and give to her kids. How will they ever learn responsibility? psjkmom 09-13-2005, 11:19 PM I was disturbed by the mother's attitude toward her kids too. They behave and make good grades. Good for them. They're supposed to! They shouldn't get a reward for acting like decent human beings. Those children need jobs and quick! They also should volunteer with some organization that helps folks who are down on their luck to see what real life is like for so many people. mom2knk 09-13-2005, 11:55 PM I was surprised at how the Mom defended the kids but she was the one that wrote it complaining about how things were! bamamomto4 09-14-2005, 12:09 AM Man--I missed it! Thanks for highlights though Heather :D Sounds it would've been interesting. kaykwilts 09-14-2005, 09:04 AM I don't think the mother ever got it that she wasn't doing her kids a favor by pampering them. I think she was totally clueless. Did yall notice that the father didn't say much. I think he was totally uncomfortable with all his dirty linen being aired on national tv. Those kids are not going to change unless the parents actually start taking Dave's advice. Cindy R 09-19-2005, 01:57 PM I also saw the show and was a bit disappointed with the guests they chose. Also, I wished it would have had more practical information and strategies. |
