DD got a Chik-fil-A kids meal yesterday and what was the prize? A kids money book by Dave Ramsey! Apparently there are about 6 different ones - story books with a message. I need to read them.

Cool, finally something worthwhile in a kid's meal. We don't have those food places here though.

That is a very good educational prize something of value to learn, not just another plastic tiny toy that will soon get broken!

I have never been to a Chik Fil A (none around here) :(

Chick-fil-A Teams with Dave Ramsey to Teach Kids Early
Financial Lessons for a Lifetime of Success

ATLANTA (August 24, 2005) – Furthering its commitment to enriching the lives of children, Atlanta-based restaurant chain Chick-fil-A will feature syndicated financial expert Dave Ramsey’s Finance for Kids Story Books as its Kid’s Meal premium during the month of September. Featuring language that children can relate to, these books offer simple stories about working and spending, giving and saving money while becoming a master of generosity, fairness and responsibility.

The Finance for Kids Story Books are a prime example of the educational, character-building premiums that have become a mainstay of Chick-fil-A’s award-winning Kid’s Meal program. Since the re-invention of its educational premium strategy in 1997, Chick-fil-A has taken a developmental approach to its Kid’s Meal offers, pairing its nutritious menu offerings – including the quick-service industry’s first Fresh Fruit Cup to be offered system-wide by a chain – with enriching premium items. While other leading quick-service chains often partner with entertainment groups to develop toys touting the latest children’s movie or television show, Chick-fil-A prefers premiums that are educational or promote character development and encourage family interaction.

“Chick-fil-A constantly seeks to complement its quality children’s menu offerings with educational and character-building tools, and we are pleased to have Dave Ramsey as a partner in our Kid’s Meal program,” said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A’s senior vice president of marketing. “We are proud to offer our young customers his book series because teaching them how to handle money now has the potential to have a lasting impact on their lives.”

With a family-focus strategy and the tagline “Growing Kids Inside and Out®,” Chick-fil-A is committed to using its Kid’s Meal program to help develop young minds and goes to great lengths to find suitable premiums. The chain conducts regular focus groups with parents, educators and children to screen ideas for its Kid’s Meals program to identify unique and educational premiums that are popular among all three groups. With its findings, Chick-fil-A allies itself with other partners that share the chain’s commitment to children.

Born in East Tennessee, and raised in Nashville, Dave Ramsey and his wife of 20 years, Sharon, know first-hand the pain and gain of experiencing a Total Money Makeover. By age 26, Dave Ramsey had accumulated a personal real estate portfolio worth more than $4 million. Just four years later he hit the financial bottom and declared personal bankruptcy. Ramsey rebuilt his financial life and has spent the last decade using his experience and insight to help hundreds of thousands on a daily basis. As the father of three children, Ramsey’s passion is to provide common-sense advice to others as they begin to change their family tree.

In addition to his children’s series, Ramsey is the author of New York Times bestsellers The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace and More Than Enough. Also accompanying Ramsey’s body of work of straight-forward financial advice is Priceless and The Money Answer Book. He is well known for numerous guest appearances on national television and as the host of The Dave Ramsey Show, a nationally syndicated talk radio program dedicated to giving advice on matters from finances to major life decisions.

Chick-fil-A’s educational premiums also complement its popular Kid’s Meal menu, which has been noted as one of the best in the industry. In 2000 and 2001, Restaurant Hospitality magazine recognized Chick-fil-A as having the “Best Kid’s Menu in America” for the quick-service restaurant category. A Chick-fil-A Kid’s Meal includes a four- or six- pack order of Chick-fil-AÒ Nuggets, Chick-fil-AÒ Waffle Potato Fries, kid’s-size beverage, and a unique premium. Additionally, customers may upgrade their Waffle Fries for a 3 oz. Fresh Fruit Cup (for an additional 40 cents), and can substitute milk in place of soda or juice as a Kid’s Meal beverage.

Dave Ramsey Series: Teaching Children about Money
In Dave Ramsey’s children’s book series the main character Junior teaches children about managing their money as he navigates through his own financial decisions.

In September 2005, Ramsey will release three new titles:
Adventures in Space
A Special Thank You
Battle of the Chores

In these new titles, Junior learns about contentment, integrity and debt. Junior’s adventures began in The Super Red Racer, Careless at the Carnival, The Big Birthday Surprise, and My Fantastic Fieldtrip where he learned about working, spending, giving and saving. Each book is $9.99 and are vailable at www.daveramsey.com, by calling 1-888-227-3223 or through your local bookstores.

The average American child may view as many as 40,000 commercials every year and by age 3 can recognize 100 different brand logos according to focusonyourchild.com.

"You have to teach children about money intentionally – create teachable moments,” said Dave Ramsey, nationally syndicated radio talk show host and best selling author. “The advertisers have a plan so you must have one too. Children who reach the age of eighteen with their entire skills set composed on Nintendo and eating Doritos have been neglected. Their parents neglected to give them the character traits necessary to live successfully.”

Adventures in Space "New"
Junior learns that you don’t have to spend lots of money to get the things you want. This story teaches that you can be just as happy with what you already have around you.

A Special Thank You "New"
Junior learns the importance of doing what’s right even when no one is looking. This story teaches the importance of integrity and the unexpected thanks that it brings.

Battle of the Chores "New"
Junior learns that when borrowing money to get what you want now instead of waiting and saving, there are unexpected consequences. This story teaches children the dangers of debt and how it can affect not only the borrower but the relationship they have with the lender.

The Super Red Racer
Junior learns that work is a great place to go when he wants to purchase that incredible, super cool item that was not in the budget. This story teaches children the value of work and the rewards of owning your stuff instead of your stuff owning you.

Careless at the Carnival
Junior learns how easy it is to spend too much money on things you don’t really need or want. This story teaches children the benefits of planning their spending and sticking to the plan no matter what.

The Big Birthday Surprise
Junior learns that giving some of what you have to those in need makes a person less selfish. This story teaches children the value of giving to others as well as the great feeling that comes with sharing what you have.

My Fantastic Fieldtrip
Junior learns that you can do three things with money: give, save and spend. This story teaches children the value of allotting money to each of these activities and why they should do so. It will also introduce them to the idea of creating an “envelope system” to help them control their money.

Special Note:
Throughout the month of September, Chick-fil-A will feature five of Ramsey’s children’s books in their kid’s meals nationwide. While other leading quick-service chains often partner with entertainment groups to develop toys touting the latest children’s movie or television show, Chick-fil-A prefers premiums that are educational or promote character development and encourage family interaction.

Chic-Fil-A has always been good about their toys. Whenever we have been there, the "prize" is always a book of some sort. Before Ramsey's books, my kids got Treasure Island!
