View Full Version : Q: What size/shape Tupperware containers do you find the most useful?
Early Bird 10-26-2005, 02:02 PM Because DH "bug bombed" the house, I am taking everything off the kitchen shelves, wiping down the shelves, washing all the dishes, pots, pans, etc., and putting down new shelf liner.
But the one grain of good in all this mess is this: I'm looking at the shelves & their contents with new eyes.
And I find a plethora of Tupperware-type containers that I don't use a lot. DH wants any that I'll give him; he'll use them in his workshop. But I'm trying to assess what are the most useful.
I have a number of shallow containers that don't fit in DH's lunch box. (about 7" x 5" x 1") I've occasionally found a use for them -- freezing a coupla leftover pork chops, for example. But I think they're my least-used item.
Items that I use often, but aren't space-efficient are round Tupperware containers: bowls, little round 1/2 cup keepers, etc. I'm thinking of replacing them all with (gasp) Gladware.
I like Tupperware, but I buy mine at garage sales. As a result, I have a mishmash of sizes. Just this past weekend, I found freezable/microwavable Gladware at Big Lots. Very cheap (5 1-qt containers for $2).
I just know that, once I give DH my 'I won't use this anymore' Tupperware, I'll want it back!
So, tell me what size/shape of Tupperware you like best -- and what you use it for.
SHOPGIRL 10-26-2005, 10:57 PM I use square or rectangular shapes. The size I like the best is 9x9x3. I have three in that size. I love tupperware!
FreesiaE 10-27-2005, 10:22 AM Hmm, good ? . Let me see. I use frequently the "Rock n' Serve" bowls (2 of them) b/c I can put leftovers in them and reheat in that same containers. They have a little vent on the lid. I wouldn't think they hold more than 8oz. I do like the "Coldcut Keeper" to be used for cookies, baked goods, etc. However, the majority of my leftovers go into gladware. I like the shapes better for my fridge.
lacyj 10-27-2005, 10:51 AM Tupperware will last for years. I have some that I'm using that probably was made in the 70's, I can tell by the colors(olive green, bright yellow/neon orange...ha...) The glad ware type stuff isn't very strong and warps. I'd keep the tupperware and get DH the stuff from big lots...
mom22grls 10-27-2005, 11:06 AM I get tupperware from garage sales, too, so my sizes aren't matching. Plus, I don't have any of the newer stuff. Also, I'm happy to take othr's cast-offs. :)
I like the gladware ones. Square ones I like the best.
Also, I use sour cream tubs, butter tubs, cool-whip tubs, even peanut butter jars. These I get a couple/few uses out of them & if they get stained or left on the fridge for months (yuck!) I just throw them away. :) I usually have 4 or 5 different ones in the drawer at a time. :)
I don't freeze stuff in them that will be in the freezer for more than a week or so. For that, I use bags or my foodsaver.
I also don't microwave in *any* plastic, so I'm not worried about them melting. And, I never use the dry cycle on my dishwasher, so they can be put in the bottom rack, too....at least in *my* dishwasher they can....I don't know abou others. :)
Darlene 10-27-2005, 11:19 AM I have old stuff too. My favs are~
Big bowl uses a Z lid, used for salads, mixing, storage of soup etc.
oblong stackable 4 3/4 ones, great for leftovers & you can see through them.
Also have some (not rubbermaid) clear square pint & quart size plastic freezer containers that are great for leftovers. Those babies stack well too.
One more thing, lol. Love the rubbermade little oblong 11.0 oz. serve & save containers. They are great for things like that onion you only used part of or one serving of something leftover.
Done rambling now.:toothy:
Katybird 10-27-2005, 03:01 PM I like my square stackable too. They are more space saving than my round ones. I love Tupperware though, all Tupperware, I could never part with any of mine. :)
Dedlered 10-27-2005, 03:11 PM I really need to clean out my tupperware cabinet. I think that they have turned into bunnies and keep reproducing themselves. If you open the cabinet, they all hop out....
That is my number one job this weekend.
Tdoyle 11-14-2005, 10:51 PM :reindeer: Tupperware is the best. I also love Glad Containers.
LOL - I even store my Tupperware INSIDE Tupperware...
inneedofhope 11-14-2005, 11:05 PM lacyj- your retro colors are fashionable these days!
I like the cups. I have a few that are like the ones i drank out of as a kid, but not the sippy tops cuz they get chewed. I recently bought a set of cups with straw tops that I really like.
Early Bird 11-15-2005, 07:45 AM When I worked in an office, I used to take my lunch, tumbled around in a tote bag. Those Tupperware cups NEVER leaked!
pkellyc 11-16-2005, 10:55 PM I like the square containers the best they do store better. But what I use the most isnt for storage at all. It's my measuring mix and store pitcher. Great for cake mixes and small batches of cookies, muffins or extra large batches of gravy.
Early Bird 11-17-2005, 12:14 AM I have several Tupperware containers for different purposes:
* 1 HUGE cylinder (maybe 14" tall, with a diameter of 9") for keeping noodles in.
* 2 cylindrical cannisters for keeping flour.
* 2 very large rectangular solids. Maybe 10" tall. Their bases are about 4" square. These also hold pantry staples -- rice, for example.
* 1 large rectangular solid. Again, the base is about 4", but it's only about 6" tall. I use that for carrots or celery.
* 2 round bowls with lids. Very good for holding coleslaw or other salads.
* 3 smaller round bowls with lids. I use these for things like carrots, celery, chicken salad, and leftovers
* 10 GLADWARE 5-cup rectangles. I use those for things like shredded beef in the freezer.
* 3 tupperware rectangular containers ... about 5" square and 4" tall. Those are good for leftovers.
* 3 tiny Tupperware containers with lids: I pack condiments in DH's lunchbox in those.
* tupperware tumblers with lids. I use these for everything! Drinks at home, picnic drinks, drinks in DH's lunch...
