We have 5.1 acres with a yard area around the house and the rest is trees (alot of hardwood). We are thinking about calling one of those timber buyers to give us estimates to totally clear the remaining 4 3/4 acres. They'd come in, cut down and take the trees and pay us by the ton or linear foot on whatever they take out. Have any of you ever had this done- or know of someone who has? What do I look for in a reputable company? Do you have to pay taxes on the money you are paid?
We want to do this, because we eventually want to get a good sized garden to sell produce, as well as get animals like cows, and maybe start a Christmas tree farm (for a tax write off). There's no way is God's name we could cut the trees ourselves and try to sell it for firewood. It sounds rediculous to pay someone to do it for us, when there's buyers who will pay us a substantial amount to do it for us- and we can certainly use the money. Thanks for your help!!
