View Full Version : Do you still have your wedding dress? homesteadmamma 01-12-2006, 10:37 AM No, it was a dress I could wear everyday. QuilterMom 01-12-2006, 10:38 AM Yes, I had it professionally preserved. Sara Noel 01-12-2006, 10:50 AM I didn't wear a dress, but what I did wear, I no longer have anymore. jlxian 01-12-2006, 11:47 AM Yes, I do, although I don't know what in the world I will ever do with it. DD turned her nose up at it when I showed it to her. It is not a wedding dress per se, just a nice knee length dress. mom2matty 01-12-2006, 11:54 AM Yes. fernykins 01-12-2006, 12:11 PM no I gave it to my sister for her daughter.at the timeshe was a skinny thing ...not any more....it was a size 3 Fern ACEHearts 01-12-2006, 12:18 PM I have mine, but I spent so little on it that it wasn't worth spending the $ on getting it professionally cleaned! I only paid $100 for the materials (including all the beaded appliques) and a neighbor sewed it for $100. I wasn't going to spend $150 to have it cleaned! So it hangs in my closet, coffee stains, dirt and all, a great reminder of how much fun we had that day. Someday if DD is interested I'll pull the appliques off for her wedding dress. In the meantime I'll just let it hang in the closet. Cindy :) Kimberlina 01-12-2006, 12:40 PM Sara, that comment left things way too open for interpretation! :toothy: LOL All kidding aside, I still have mine, and am trying to decide what to do with it. Which reminds me, I owe Denise some pictures.... Michelle 01-12-2006, 12:55 PM Yes. Michele Annette 01-12-2006, 01:09 PM No, I donated mine to the Salvation Army last year when I realized it no longer had sentimental value to me. It also took up so much space in my closet. Exiled2FL 01-12-2006, 01:14 PM My Mom has it (we were grad students and lived in a tiny apartment after our wedding - the dress would have taken up our whole bedroom closet). guest32 01-12-2006, 01:48 PM Still have mine. And it still fits since I did WW three years ago! Emerald_Mommy 01-12-2006, 02:07 PM Still have it. I had it professionally cleaned and preserved. My mom is storing it for me right now. I still have the slip, too. I loan it to schools for their dramas (works almost like a hoop skirt for some). Deborah_Kate 01-12-2006, 02:22 PM Yes. I had it preserved and it's in a box in our spare room. Deb Sara Noel 01-12-2006, 02:41 PM Originally posted by Kimberlina Sara, that comment left things way too open for interpretation! :toothy: LOL lol I wore a women's tuxedo- inspired type pant suit. So basically a tux but feminine and no bow tie. lol It had sheer sleeves. I'm not a dress type and can't imagine wearing a wedding gown/veil. Sorta like this but white and sheer sleeves and satin cuffs. Michele Annette 01-12-2006, 03:00 PM Cool Sara! AmyBoz 01-12-2006, 04:11 PM Yep...it's still at my parents house. Pepper 01-12-2006, 04:47 PM No! It never seemed that important! It was given to a friend of the family!! kaykwilts 01-12-2006, 05:10 PM I still have it but I didn't put out the bucks to have it professionally perserved. I have it in a garment bag in the closet and it looks as good as ever. I think presevation is way overrated and overpriced. sunshine 01-12-2006, 05:41 PM Yes-- I just posted about it a few days ago- momof42003 01-12-2006, 05:46 PM The dress I wore, I still have.. I had only worn it once and it is a dress that can be worn everyday... It would be a shame if I did not keep it... I am sentimental in that way... sixfreds 01-12-2006, 07:12 PM Yup I still have mine. It was a dress I just loved and couldn't imagine getting rid of it. Someday (years from now) I would like to hope one of my daughters will wear it. I am short and our 12 year old is taller then me so maybe nit but I will have it if they want to. I still love that dress. Eileen Kimberlina 01-12-2006, 08:41 PM Very chic, Sara. I was imagining that you wore something you didn't want to talk about...like a bikini! LOL :toothy: baxjul 01-12-2006, 08:46 PM No, my niece wore mine.:) bamamomto4 01-12-2006, 08:51 PM No,I borrowed my aunts.I think she ended up selling it. I still have my veil, that she handmade for me :) KimSecret 01-12-2006, 09:11 PM Yes, it's been in my MIL's attic for 13.5 yrs now. Katybird 01-13-2006, 04:30 PM I wore a denim dress and I still have it. (DH wore jeans, western shirt and hat and boots) . celina 01-13-2006, 04:37 PM yes , mine was very expensive and the bodice was beaded and gorgeous, i had it preserved...now i didnt want to worry if the kids would want it etc....so i kept the bodice intact and my veil and headpiece, which were truly the best part and from the skirt, train, my mother made dd a christening gown and full cape..and i had someone make ds a suit for his christening with a jacket... so now they have their own heirlooms from my dress, and i am making them and me xmas tree angels from the fabric..one for each of them, with a letter from me..for later on.... if dd does chose to wear it, cause now its cut up, you know she'll want it...she can have a skirt made to attach to the bodice...of any style she wishes ....... i love what we did..and feel greta about it....maybe tommorrow i'll post pics of the dress and the 2 outfits on this thread... i.m.cheap 01-13-2006, 05:06 PM Yes, I do. It was just a dress from Sears, all-over lace, mid-calf length, with long sleeves, in an ecru color. I think I paid $69 for it. We had a courthouse wedding. crdurham 01-13-2006, 11:35 PM I still have it, but love the ideas that have been posted about what do do with it..... SHOPGIRL 01-14-2006, 01:15 AM Yes I still have it. I doubt I'll ever get rid of it. It's stored at my parent's house. Tiantian26 01-19-2009, 02:36 AM I do not have mine!I am single now! But i think i will preserve it if i have mine no matter how much space it will take! That indicates a happy memory! LexTysMommy 01-19-2009, 09:16 AM I do not have mine, it was a prom type white dress, cost me less then $100 and I am not sentimental type. IntlMom 01-19-2009, 09:58 AM yep, professionally boxed up and in the attic at my parents house. but I have NO idea why I still have it........oh well, it's not taking up space at MY house!! :) MoonMommy 01-19-2009, 10:06 AM I do. I kept it because I am not sure if my daughter will ever want to wear it or perhaps my 3 neices may need a dress sometime. Also, there are SOME things that I keep because they are memories (although there aren't many). sixfreds 01-19-2009, 11:22 AM I still have mine, I have no idea what will happen to it dd #1 is already taller then me so she won't be able to wear it and dd #2 who is 10 is tall for her age so I would bet she will be taller then me also so looks like I will just keep it forever and remember the day... I fit in it again so maybe dh and I can renew our vows and I can wear that same dress :~) nancycg56 01-19-2009, 12:50 PM Yes. I know DD will never wear it but she might use parts of the veil. frugalfriend 01-19-2009, 01:03 PM Yes, I still have mine. It's hanging in a garment bag in the closet. I'm the sentimental type . . . I love that dress and hope my daughter wants to wear it when she gets married. Ceashels 01-19-2009, 02:55 PM Ayup, its hanging in my closet. It will work as a special/dressy occasion outfit and would do better if I took some of the length off. Jayne 01-19-2009, 03:32 PM I still have both of mine...the one from my 1st marriage is only a size 7, I don't think it will fit..the one from my current and final marriage is a size 12, I might get in that again some day..I also have my prom gowns forHISglory 01-19-2009, 04:44 PM Yes, it's zipped up and hanging in a back closet. And after 35 years, it still fits! quiltingmommy 01-19-2009, 09:45 PM I have mine. Although I'm not sure what to do with it. It will be 15 years old this June. I thought about consigning it, but most places don't want a gown that old (even though it's preserved). I don't have any daughters and my nieces will want their own gown. It is beautiful, though. Maybe I'll post a pic one day of me in my off the shoulder beautifully beaded gown. :) Iansmommy 01-19-2009, 11:54 PM Yes, it's in my closet. We will be celebrating our 16th Anniversary this year. I don't think my daughter will wear it, it is very poofy and lacy, so I don't know what I am hanging on to it for. Tiantian26 01-20-2009, 04:12 AM Yes. I know DD will never wear it but she might use parts of the veil. You have a sense of humor! joyofsix 01-20-2009, 07:42 AM Yes! I was married in my grandmother's dress. She was married in 1913 so it's sort of a family heirloom. I don't know if any of my girls will want it but it's special to me. SweetPea 01-20-2009, 07:49 AM Yes, I had it professionally preserved. Me too, and it's in the back of the closet, and to answer the other question I saw about wedding dresses, it doesn't fit anymore either. I really need to sell or donate it. Kaos Kitty 01-20-2009, 10:41 AM Yes it's hanging in my closet. I should really get it cleaned and sew up a few loose pearl beads. It's a beautiful dress. I wish someone else could enjoy it for their wedding, but I also want to keep it! TigerGirl1226 01-20-2009, 12:20 PM Yes, I had it professionally preserved. Same here. QM 01-20-2009, 12:32 PM Yes, I had it professionally preserved. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with it...it's in a rather large box in our storage room taking up space. I'm quite sure I wouldn't get much for it, so instead I'll probably end up saving it to see if either of my girls want pieces of it made into fancy handkerchiefs or something else when they get married. They probably won't in the end, but I'm still holding onto it since it's preserved and everything. kmonokwe 01-20-2009, 04:29 PM I've got mine. Its in my mom's closet. Haven't had it preserved - seemed too costly. The thing was a clearance item anyway. If it lasts, it lasts, and it would be very sweet if I have a daughter who wants it someday. Who knows. Jskell911 01-20-2009, 09:26 PM I do still have mine. Not too sure why, as I have a son and well it's not looking like he'll use it:duck: geckoace 01-21-2009, 11:59 AM yes, i wore a cream colored pants suit type deal. so i have it cause i like it thought i havent worn it since... i may give it to my mom cause she is more likely to get some use out of it Neeley 01-21-2009, 12:31 PM Yep, still have it. HisDaisy 01-22-2009, 03:02 AM I have mine. It is in a garment bag at my parents house. My mom made the dress so it is very special to me. It is simple dress sleeveless dress with a sheer overcoat. Parsimonious 01-22-2009, 07:57 AM I still have my wedding suit. I can't wear it, though. It's too big :D I'm not quite sure why I keep it. Not to wear it ever again, hopefully :D I married in a gray pinstripe pants suit, gray tie (always wanted to have one!), black polo shirt (borrowed), my everyday shoes and superglued glasses (but you don't see that on the pictures :D). I loved this combination! cab54 02-12-2009, 01:10 PM Yup. It's in my cedar chest. Veil too. I made them both. It is about a size 4, so I will never get it over one leg anymore. MyMelody 03-31-2009, 09:33 PM I only got married a year and a half ago, but I still have mine, and it does still fit now that I lost some weight. My dress was literally the best deal I may ever get: an ivory, silk organza strapless gown with an embroidered corset-style bodice and chapel train, purchased on eBay brand new with tags originally stating a price of $700 for (drumroll please) $56!! Including shipping! All I had to do was replace the ribbon that laced the corset ($2.50), and my mom hemmed the skirt and put in a 3-point bustle for me for free. Woohoo! LastDragonfly 03-31-2009, 09:45 PM Nope I don't, no regrets but............ on the same lines...just this last weekend my bff had a fight with her mom and my bff marched her wedding dress right out to the dumpster...OMG...it was drama...she's been married 25 years now but her mom referred to it as sh*t...:censor:...Yikes... cheriede 03-31-2009, 09:57 PM I still have my wedding dress. After I got married, I left it with my parents and it should be in my old bedroom closet. strezzed 06-07-2009, 08:48 PM I still have mine too. It was preserved but then I tried it on last year and need to have it resealed. mauimagic 06-07-2009, 09:06 PM I still have mine - in fact just noticed it was hanging on the door to my sewing room = white eyelet - forget the name of the designer but it was a classic style back in the early 80s. It won't fit now, but I think that it might someday!! Actually I was think of using the fabric to sew something else. This was the dress that I actually wore at my wedding and bought it the night before. My original planned dress was a traditional Hawaiian holoku that I borrowed from a friend. Then my DH to be almost died the morning of the wedding - long story full of weird stuff - so two weeks later I was buying my new dress to wear. Much more than you wanted to know!! ;) calimomx2 06-07-2009, 10:23 PM I still have mine. It has been packed away in the closet for 24 years now. I should go and pull it out to see how it looks now! :) MelissaV 06-18-2009, 09:37 PM Yup, it's in a box in the back of the closet. Why did I even bother to have it "preserved?" I still haven't come up with a good answer for that when my husband pushes it aside and asks me that very question. Oh well... gapeach 06-18-2009, 10:11 PM I don't have mine because I rented it. Mummy2 06-19-2009, 11:41 AM I only got married a year and a half ago, but I still have mine, and it does still fit now that I lost some weight. Woohoo! Ahh Ha!! Mine was $35.00 off ebay!! That included shipping and it fit perfect, I got lucky there didnt need alterations either. Dont ya just love a "Cheap" dress?? I donated mine to the Salvation Army after I was done getting married, I dont store too much its too hot and damp here. |
