View Full Version : Halfway Through the Living Room Challenge
AmyBoz 01-14-2006, 02:07 PM ...and I'm wondering if some of us have lost our steam.
Remember, if you are done, you can be going back and making sure your coat closet is still in order. Hopefully, in a week, it hasn't re-accumulated everything you were able to get rid of!!!
Also, be sure to be doing some regular maintenance and de-cluttering while you wait for the next challenge!
SHOPGIRL 01-14-2006, 03:52 PM No, the living room is on the list for today. I'm just about done. I haven't forgotten.
baxjul 01-14-2006, 06:00 PM Living room still looks good, and our entryway is into the living room, so that handles that! I will work on keeping it that way for now.:)
homesteadmamma 01-15-2006, 01:44 PM Living room is finished.
graci42 01-15-2006, 08:52 PM No, Amy...haven't lost steam. I got rid of a box of around 40 books. For the most part my living room is "clutter free". I can't declutter dh's desk. He keeps the top clean but the innerds are his.
I think tomorrow I will move all the furniture and vacuum and dust. I'll give it a deep cleaning. The carpet is in dire need of scrubbing as well!
Thanks for reminding me to keep on task!
Graci
momof42003 01-15-2006, 11:52 PM The Christmas totes are finally back in the garage... I will have a small box for the misc. Christmas that has made its way into other rooms of the house.... Tonight I hope to finish doing the picking up of the livingroom, and complete it tomorrow...
AmyBoz 01-16-2006, 08:38 AM Good job, everyone! I'm going to post living room pictures yesterday so you can see what I cleaned out.
tervsforme 01-18-2006, 08:19 AM Whew, got the living room all decluttered. Wasn't too bad because I just moved in, but it is amazing how quickly misc. junk lands on the bookshelves (think shoes! LOL). I will vacuum and dust today and then I'm done!
Scattymum 01-18-2006, 09:04 AM I got my bookshelves and mantle decluttered - those were the worst offenders LOL, my mirrors and pictures have been cleaned and today I am giving all the furniture a good wipe down
peanut 01-18-2006, 12:45 PM I've given up. With my sewing unit in the living room and dd#1 wanting to sew curtains over here this week, it's a disaster zone. I have no place to store the curtains inbetween working on them. And I have a box of quilting fabric I got off the top shelf of the sewing unit that I haven't managed to get back up there. Plus leftover fabric from sewing dd's wedding outfit in a bag. The curtains are draped all over this and the ironing board besides!
I think I will go down and try to straighten up a bit, but in reality, as long as the sewing unit is in the living room, there's no hope for it ever looking as nice as your living room Amy.

crdurham 01-18-2006, 01:54 PM It's looking good for me. The den is done. I got it all cleaned up and decluttered. There was just a bookshelf and the tv stand in there so I got that all decluttered. I had a bunch of ds's vhs movies that I am going to take and get my bil to put on disk for me and then drive them straight over to the library to donate. That will clear up alot of space.
The other living room is pretty much done except for the computer area. I will be working on it in a couple of days. The only other thing is the end table and I cleaned out the drawer this morning. There is a standing clock in here that as soon as my brother comes by, it will be going to his home.
peanut 01-19-2006, 03:07 PM Well I braved it and went down to work on the living room anyways. I washed all the slipcovers. Moved the books to the bookcases in the hallway. Cleaned off the top of the piano. Rearranged stuff on the mantelpiece. Cleared out some CDs and cassettes for the garage sale pile. It looks much better. Not perfect, especially if you look over towards the sewing unit, but much better anyways.

jzkitten 01-19-2006, 05:11 PM I'm almost done. Still have 2 shelves of magazines and books to go thru then vacumn and shampoo the carpet.
AmyBoz 01-19-2006, 06:42 PM Good job, everyone! Almost done!
missmollymayhem 01-21-2006, 12:09 AM Not losing steam- just losing free time! I've been very busy and haven't been online much this week- my living room is sparkley now :)
momof42003 01-22-2006, 04:54 AM I have finally finished the livingroom... In the last two weeks, I have basically gotten rid of two 30 gallon trash bags of trash and magazines...  :toothy: I have also sorted and stacked the kids books, looked in everybox nook and cranny and gotten rid of anything not of use to me...I have had to repositon some of my furniture, because mainly, my ds(8), broke our little kitchen table and I now have to bring in our larger one... Dusted everything, and cleaned all glass surfaces, as well as an extemely clean carpet. My livingroom is now half of what it was... There have been new rules implemented too... No more eating in the livingroom, and you MUST pick up after yourself... The kids will take turns vacuuming, and dusting, as well as a few other "jobs"..;)
guest7 01-22-2006, 06:36 AM my LR is decluttered, swiffered, polished and windows washed. (inside only- it's cold here in New England).
I haven't gone through 2 shelves in my book case- because I ran out of time.. but I peeked at the books and see some I MIGHT want to get rid of.
Honestly, I keep LR clutterfree... but there are still things to do in there. Hiding and lurking.
AmyBoz 01-22-2006, 08:22 AM Whoo-hoo! Well, I'd have to say that the living room part of our challenge was a success! Great job, ladies!!!
peanut 01-22-2006, 03:12 PM It really was for me. DD#1 finally agreed to let the piano go. Dh agreed to let the piano go. I cleared the top of the piano. Now the debate is whether to tune it before trying to sell it or not. DD#1 thinks we should. I don't know if we have the $150 for that. I'm dreaming of a cleared out living room!
Tried to sort through my patterns yesterday and had a real hard time. I don't know how to sort through them! Anyone got any ideas? I pulled out four or five really old ones...you know '60s Dior dresses and jackets. Hate to get rid of them. They have historical value almost! But I'm never going to use them, so they went out.

happymommy 01-24-2006, 01:08 PM Only thing left to do is wash the walls and ceiling.
peanut 01-24-2006, 02:30 PM Grrrr! I thought we had the piano thing settled. Now dd#2 is wanting to hang onto it! But noone's played it in 3 years. She claims people played it at Christmastime this year. I never heard them. Dh gets ugly every time I mention tuning it. I think it's time to get rid of it despite dd#2. She certainly isn't learning to play it! :bang: Okay...vent over...I'm still getting rid of the piano...I think.
