Anyone heat with woodburning stoves or cook with a woodstove? My family heated primarily with woodstoves when I grew up. We don't own one now, but I miss the coziness of it.

I miss it, but I do NOT miss going every weekend to cut wood, then bring it home, help cut it, split it and stack it. I had more calloused hands than the boys who worked on the farms when I was in high school! We currently have a fireplace AND a fireplace with an insert, but only occasionally use it. I have to get the chimney cleaned before fall; we had a nest of birds in it! Karla 07-29-2002, 06:09 AM We burned wood for years, we also spent our summers going to the Mts to cut and gather firewood, bring it home to split for winter, that was a lot of hard work and I would also put what ever I was cooking that was a one pot meal on top of the stove and let it cook even though it wasn't an actual wood "cooking"stove it was fun to cook using my cast iron on it...Now we burn pellets, its cleaner no more mess and no more sore backs, its also a nice warm heat doodlebug 07-29-2002, 09:25 PM We burned wood for 8 years when we lived in our old victorian house, it was the only way to keep warm, it was so drafty. Now that we've moved to a newer house we only use the woodstove in emergency power outtages. Sometimes I miss the deep warmth of it, but I don't miss the mess or carrying wood.
