Looking for some ideas for some fun Halloween crafts. Anyone making any?

Have you tried making ghosts out of cheesecloth and white glue?

It's a good time of year to gather some fall leaves with the kids and press in contact paper.

I press mine in a phone book until they are dry and then make a poster board or construction paper background and then press contact paper on front and back.

I might try this without drying this year and see how it works out.

If your going to try it without drying the leaves first, you have to make sure that there are no air pockets around them. I tried the easy way a few years ago and some came out fine, others the leaves just fell apart after a week or so. As near as I can tell that was the only difference in them.

take a tuna can spray paint it black, glue black pipe cleaners on the bottom to make legs then glue a black pom pom on the front and wiggle eyes. fill the can with candies
The kids love them you can also drill tiny holes in the side of the can and put a string to hang them. Hot glue works the best for gluing

Cool Whip Lid/Grocery Sack Ghost
What You Need:
Cool Whip Lid or other similar sheer white lid
3 Black Construction Paper circles for eyes and mouth
2 sheer white plastic grocery sacks
2 white pipe cleaners (chenille stem)
Scotch tape
Glue stick
Black yarn
Hole punch


How To Make It


Glue eyes and mouth on front of lid.
Cut off any writing or graphics, and handles from grocery sacks. Lay the sacks on a flat surface. With scissors, shred 2" strips up sacks leaving at least 1" area intact next to the seam.
Glue the pipe cleaner/chenille stem into the seam.
Turn lid over on flat surface. Bend and insert the pipe cleaner/seam into the ridge around the bottom 1/2 of the lid. Tape to secure in place.
Repeat with the 2nd sack and stem, and insert in the ridge around the upper 1/2 of the lid.
Punch a hole through top of the lid. Thread a length of yarn through the hole appropriate for hanging.
The kids preferred to have a loop on the end of a 1 1/2' length so they could hold on and run with them. They "fly" nicely and appear as though the kids are being "chased" by a little ghost!

I have 2 I am working on... The first I modified from a craft mag to make them more affordable. We are doing them for both ds & dd's classes and the teachers.

Mummy Candy cans......
You need:
Empty cans, labels removed (Check for sharp edges and pinch down with pliers) ( Use any size can you want, use large cans for trick or treating buckets)
Nail & Hammer
white spray paint (Wal-Mart 98c a can is good)
Cheese cloth (If you have muslin it would work to, I would tear muslin & cut cheese cloth)
Brown paint (just a little)
White glue (watered down just a bit, Wal-Mart has this too for 15c a bottle right now.) (I use a clear drying wallpaper paste I buy for crafting, it's $4.50 a gallon at Wal-Mart, I do crafts on such a large scale it works for me and is CHEAP ! It dries hard and clear too )

Turn can open side down and spray paint white, the paint does not need to perfect, only the bottom will show. Punch 2 holes on opposite sides for handle to go in. Cut or tear fabric in 1 to 1 1/2 inch strips (You don't need to be to neat)
Now dip your strips in the watered down glue or wallpaper paste and ring out a little, use a 3 or 4 inch piece for the mummy's nose, roll in a ball and apply to the front of can. Use the gooey strips to cover the mummy, just wrap around the can and over the nose, leave the ends at the bottom loose or hanging off, a mummy is a bit messy after all. After your piece has dried, check to see just how stiff it is, if you want more stiffness, spray with clear coat or cover with lacquer. Put a small piece of wire in the holes at the top for a handle, Use your finger or a pencil to dot eyes on with brown paint and 2 nostrils under the nose. I hope I have explained this well enough... For those of you that can paint use the can and handle thing and just paint orange with jack o lantern faces......

The second project......
Trick or treaters for the porch.......
This will look like a trick or treating toddler on your porch or walk....

You"ll need :
Scrap wood... one piece approx 10x10 inches for the base, a square or circle
it doesn't matter, and 1 3 ft dowel rod, cut into 1- 2ft & 1- 1 ft piece,
paint for the base if you prefer
twine for tying dowels together,
some batting or fluff from and old pillow, a pair of whites kids socks, an
old pair of toddler shoes, toddler pants boys or girls , what ever you like
or have, toddler size shirt, an old adult white sock for head, hot glue
gun, a piece of white
fabric, approx. (1 yard by 1 yard.)
a pumpkin bucket or trick or treat bag..
Drill and bit the size of the dowel you use...
wood or white glue......

Place the base on the floor, place shoes on top of base to center and figure
where a child feet would naturally stand. Drill a hole in the heel of the
left shoe and on the base beneath the hole in the shoe, Put the 2 ft dowel
rod thru hole on the shoe and into the hole in the base, hot glue both to
hold in place. glue the right shoe to base a couple of inches apart.slip the
left pant leg down the rod and leave there for now. Using the 1 ft rod, tie
it like a cross about 3/4 of the way up the stick, tie and glue in place.
this will look like a cross, the horizontal rod will be arms. Center the top
rod as it will be off center above the left shoe. Stuff the adult sock to
the appropriate size for a head, slip over vertical dowel, tie and glue in
place. Using Child's socks, stuff and place at end of vertical rod for hands
and arms, tie and glue in place. put shirt on frame. Glue bottom of pants to
top of shoes and stuff legs with stuffing (or just use plastic grocery bags
as stuffing) Pull pants up and glue inside of shirt. Drape the large piece
of fabric over head to resemble a ghost. Glue in unseen spots to secure,
draw a ghostly face on fabric on front of head. Hang pumpkin bucket or trick
or treat bag on hand..... You should have a standing toddler in a ghost
costume....

Now I'm making a "Statue Of Liberty" costume for dd, this is a first for me... I have made scary stuff and cartoon stuff but nothing like this...........
