I honestly haven't tried this yet, but plan to. I'd like to say bye to dryer sheets.

View Full Version : Anyone use vinegar for fabric softener? Sara Noel 07-30-2002, 10:51 AM I honestly haven't tried this yet, but plan to. I'd like to say bye to dryer sheets. Sara justjenn 07-30-2002, 02:55 PM I have always used vinegar. Except a few weeks ago I broke down and bought a bottle of fabric softner. lol But, I love vinegar. It does the job, and doesn't leave the vinegar smell on your clothes. justGina 07-30-2002, 03:33 PM I haven't, but I only use fabric softener 'cause it makes my clothes smell good. I don't care if they're soft or not. TheFrugalDiva 07-30-2002, 04:12 PM Vinegar is also good to remove the urine smell from clothes and bedsheets after nighttime "accidents" Michelle 07-30-2002, 05:41 PM How do you use this? When do you add it to the wash, how much, etc? Michelle doodlebug 07-30-2002, 05:45 PM I just started using vinegar this past month, so far I only use it in clothes that I hang on the clothesline, I haven't tried it on clothes that I put in the dryer yet. I've noticed that the clothes seem fresher and softer. Michelle, I put about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of white vinegar in my rinse water. heaven 07-31-2002, 01:14 AM i have used ammonia but never vinegar. I guess it should do the same thing. I was worried that my clothes would smell bad but they don't. I have even dried them in the dryer after. Alot cheaper than softner sheets. milach 07-31-2002, 02:23 PM Never have, but heard it works just as good as Downey (minus the April Fresh smell) Laura KathiS 08-04-2002, 06:17 PM My gosh! You learn something new every day! I had no idea that vinegar could be used for a clothes softener! I learn so much here from all of you. I'm going to try this! Thanks! NativeMommyof2 08-05-2002, 02:17 AM I always thought that my clohtes would come out smelling like vinegar. Learn something new everyday :D marcimae 08-05-2002, 03:58 AM I tried the vinegar and it works great. :) marcimae Lori Biever-Launder 08-11-2002, 09:06 PM Put the vinegar in your old Downy ball! Works great if you don't have a fabric dispenser area on your washer. simplemom 08-11-2002, 09:46 PM I have been using vinegar for at least 10 years. I recently bought some liquid softner. I felt like trying to do like my mom. I think I wanted to build a connection or something. I know it sounds weird, but my mom and I don`t have much in common. lol Vinegar works great. I also use between 1/4 cup and 1/2 cup. I just put in the area in my washer where I would normally use softner. Of course you don`t get the smell of softner. :) Ahrens65 08-18-2002, 08:27 PM I have used vinegar as a fabric softner for about a year now. I have alot of friends that think I am weird...but oh well....I enjoy saving money! Tamara :) julesh 08-20-2002, 02:55 PM I use white vinegar for so much, including fabric softener. Not only does it work as a softener, but it's also a rinse agent. It will rinse away any soap residue left in your clothing, which extends the life and color. When you clean your carpets, if you go over it a second time with just water and vinegar it's a great way to get the any soap reside out of the carpet - soap residue will attract dirt. Your carpets will be cleaner and brighter. AandAmom 08-20-2002, 03:38 PM I use 1/4 cup vinegar in the rinse. Dh never even knew until recently. Now he's doing it too! :D captclearance 09-04-2002, 09:21 PM I use vinegar in the Downey ball too... In addition I use baking soda in the rinse after bleaching to remove the clorine and bring the PH back in to balance ...... |
