Interesting article, I wish when they wrote those they would also include tips on things you can do. I wonder how many people read that sort of story, panic for a moment and then get overwhelmed by the prospect of making changes and end up doing nothing.

I'm not surprised. Most of our culture has such an entitlement mentality that really impedes saving.

I really wish articles like this wouldn't make blanket statements though. For instance: "Students can't save." That is simply not true. My husband now has two bachelor's degrees (and I'm finishing my first) with no debt, and that was with no student loans, personal loans from family, credit card debt or grants. It's tough but it can be done.

I had a boyfriend who would brag that he was a lawyer making good money. I pointed out to him that if he had saved a $1 per week, he'd have more money in the bank than he did now.

He and his roommate had to have the best of everything. The best bowling ball and bowling shoes - even though they went bowling like once a year. Gourmet dinners. Country club dues. etc. He didn't have a dime to his name and lived in an apartment.

I like how they pointed out about the new bankruptcy laws are going into affect. I think it is absolutely terrible the way people file bankruptcy. They get into debt way too deep, and then just wipe it out with a bankruptcy only to (many times) do it over again. These new laws will stop that!
