View Full Version : No gardens?
Sara Noel 05-14-2001, 10:06 PM hehe I am kind of chuckling because this forum has been "postless".
This year we aren't doing a garden. It's the first year in a long time that I haven't done flowers or veggies. It seems odd for me.
If anyone has any questions on gardening, I can try my best to help out. I can give tips on houseplants too.

littlewolf 05-15-2001, 12:13 AM Sara, I would love to be able to do a garden and plant flowers. However, I have five dogs that would destroy the plants as soon as I get them in the ground. LOL!!!

calabella 05-23-2001, 08:54 PM Here's a houseplant question for you. I have a large crown of thorns plant which has grown to almost 3 ft. tall. The stems are bare except for the top 6". Can I cut them off and try to root in water? I know it will sprout from the bottom because I broke off a piece once and this is what happened...but I never tried to reroot the tops.
Sara Noel 05-24-2001, 01:16 PM You can cut off from where the branch meets the trunk. The stems are milky, and should kinda dry out a bit before attempting rooting. You can let it air dry a bit and then dip into root-tone. You should restrict watering for a bit. It will be slow to root, but should work out fine. (months time or so)

deewheat 06-01-2001, 08:51 PM Unfortunately, my yard looks like this / and gardening is impossible, except for what I container garden...you would be amazed at how many tomatoes can be grown in a 5 gallon bucket with enough Miracle Gro LOL! Fortunately, I have a lot of friends who have gardens so during the harvest season, don't expect to see much of me!

gkcarter 07-26-2001, 09:54 AM Ive done a vegetable garden the past 3 years. I love it, but am obviously not very good at it. ALL of my tomato plants have something called blight. I finally found out what it was on the internet this year. They had it the last 2 years also and I didnt realize till last week that the disease stays in the ground year after year! Now my squash have come down with something, a white powdery stuff on the leaves. Help! What is wrong with me and how do I save my garden?

How early did you plant the squash? Sometimes they get beetles if planted early.
Is it like light webbing or more like just powder? Many times white powder indicates mildew. It's caused from high humidity. There is a spray for this. I'll look into this for you, if you want.
Any other symptoms?
As for your tomatoes, blight is common. It does re-infect. You have to really clear out any debris. It also helps if you plant them further apart. Mulch usually helped me too.

KathiS 09-11-2001, 05:47 AM I tried growing peppers and tomatoes in containers this year and got no where! I had beautiful plants but, no veggies! Is there a secret to container gardening? /phpbb/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif
missjayne 09-11-2001, 11:08 AM Hi,
When we moved into are house there was a nice garden area for planting. I planted and it did very well, Well its been 2 years and havent planted it sense. As you can amagine it is nothing but full of grass and tall weeds. My question is how or what do I do now before winter to prepare this garden for planting for next summer? I do not have a rotortiller witch is part of the reason I did'nt plant this summer. Just want to know what I have to do to get it back in shape for next year. Here in wisconsin at the farmers market they want 2.50 a pound for tomatoes.
Thanks ahead of time
