take advantage of salvage stores?
I have one near me that I frequent and I can by all kinds of specialty/ health food items very cheap! There are some things they sell that aren't a bargain or very out dated so you have to be careful. I love salvage stores!!!
There isn't one near me or I certainly would check it out.

I have been shopping at mine for the last 10 years and love it!!!
My kids call it the dented can store and joke that its so cheap they play a radio instead of piped in music. But my DS comes home from Orlando 2 hours away to shop at my store. Its owned by Russian Immigants that came over with a Local church as thier sponsors. Mine has refrigerator cases and a freezer.
Two weeks ago I bought frozen pork tenderloin 3# size for 3.99 and a 8# on for 5.99. Both we're Smithfield Brand and were preseaned and delicous. One 3#er lasted us 2 plus meals.
The only thing my shop doesn't sell is fresh veggies or fruit. But there is a roadside stand on my way. In the years I've been shopping there I have gotten one buggy package of Mac & Cheese which I told them about and was given another free. I really like the strange specials my store will have like right now buy 1 Betty Crocker / Duncan Hines cake mix for .49 cents and get a second one for free. When every the shelves are too full they will run a special like that written up on a piece of notebook paper stuck to the shelf.

We have one in our town called Liquidation Centre. I was in there to-day and they had huge jugs of bbq sauce for $1.00 but it said smoky flavour on it and I can't stand that smoky taste - good buy though if you like it.

Mine sells everything. I don't buy the produce or dairy products though because they tend to be the same price or more than like Aldi's.

Laurie,
That sounds just like the one we go to when we visit the In-laws in Indiana!!! It's a 3 hour drive from here to the in-laws and we go once every 2 months to their place, and when we go, we go the the dented can store& stock up! Our place is owned by the Mennonites. We love it! We got a bag of 60ct. Koolaide for $1.25 (.02 cents a packet.), I can find tons of vegetarian canned & boxed items for an 1/4 of the price as in reg. grocery stores & co-ops, it's wonderful!!!!:cherry:

Yep we have one here. But I've found that I actually spend more money when I shop there because I can't get everything I need just from that store so I have to go to the regular grocery store too and I end up buying more stuff than I really need to because its such a good price at the salvage store. I do go occasionally though. And they have a good return policy, if you buy something and don't like it they'll refund your money. I've learned to buy mostly the brand-name products that I'm familiar with there, most of the time when I try the off-brands they just aren't very good at all but I do get surprised every once in a while.
