View Full Version : We finally did it!
FrugalMomof3 04-12-2006, 12:42 PM Yes, I am sooo happy today! We finally paid off the last of our CC's, that means $0 credit card debt for us and only a mortgage and regular utilities to worry about! YAY! I am sooooo excited.
That means this year alone we paid of 18 CC's which adds up to over $10,000 in CC debt! YUCK! But glad it's gone and I only have 1 credit card and it's for emergencies only! Down the shredder the rest go....

AmyBoz 04-12-2006, 04:30 PM That is WONDERFUL!!!
FrugalMomof3 04-12-2006, 04:33 PM Now with any extra moola I will put it towards the mortgage which is a plus, even putting $35 extra per month will lower my mortgage terms by a few years, come 6/2007, we will be putting an extra $260 per month extra towards the mortgage surely bringing our terms down even more!
This is a like a big weight lifted off our shoulders. God is GREAT!
Kiara 04-12-2006, 04:36 PM Congratulations!!!
We started with close to 19,000 and about 12 cc.
Now we are down to 7,000 and I am moving that to a 0% balance until it
is paid off. I have been in cc debt since I was 18 years old. Now I am 38 and I am looking forward to have no debt.
Luckily both my husband and I work so I am praying we will be able to accomplish this goal.
Mojjo 04-12-2006, 05:58 PM Way to go!!! You are my inspiration. :cheer4:

FrugalMomof3 04-12-2006, 08:15 PM Thanks Cheryl!
I am going to my very best to put as much extra to the mortgage this year as we can... then next year and extra $260 a month (we currently pay child support of $520 a month now which ends 4/15/07).
We want to take half of that payment of $520 and put it to good use! it would bring our mortgage term down 15 years! That means if we start 6/1/06 but add a year onto that because we wont start till 6/1/07, it's just exciting to see the many things we can do by adding a little bit more every month to your mortgage payment.
Then with the other $260 we would stash it away and pretend it was like another bill, if we do that we wont really miss it, we haven't seen that money in over 14 years, so I know we can do it! (That's over $3000 saved in a year!)
homemaker66 04-12-2006, 08:38 PM Great Job!!!
Can you pass some of your saving ideas onto me so I can get rid of my cc bill of 8,000. This is the only one that we have and I would love to get rid of it for GOOD.
Thanks and great job done.

wendy 04-12-2006, 08:39 PM CONGRATULATIONS!!!
NoDebtMom 04-12-2006, 09:12 PM That's awesome!! You should be proud. :cheer4:
FrugalMomof3 04-12-2006, 09:16 PM Michelle,
Well honestly all I can say is focus on paying atleast double payments... if your min. payment is $10 pay $20, it will be done in no time, then snowball that $20 onto the next debt and so on.
We just kept saving and we also just refinanced the house so we got a little extra back so that went towards paying the CC's.
Next year, we will be putting an extra $260 a month towards the mortgage reducing our term from 30 to 15 years, on top of that we reduce our term from 15 to 10 years because we pay bi-weekly! You have to REALLY want to do it and set your mind to it.
If you ever wanna talk, send me a pm, I am here for ya!
FrugalMomof3 04-12-2006, 09:18 PM Almost forgot, cut down on costs where ever you can, we didn't turn our heat on all winter so that saved us $200-$250 a month!
Use candles instead of lights
Cut down features on your phone bill
Go to basic cable
Little things like that always help.
homemaker66 04-12-2006, 09:28 PM Thanks a bunch for your input. I am thinking of trasferring the cc amount to another lower percent rate cc. I make a 50.00 payment every single week no matter what. I would like to have this payed off before the end of the year. Have a great night.
Michelle

northernmom2boys 04-13-2006, 03:13 PM Can I ask you how you mangaed to pay off your credit cards off so fast,in one post you said you only had if I remeber corectly 200 $ dollars left after all bills are apid. And is it that warm where you live that you dont need heat during the winter?Just curious
FrugalMomof3 04-13-2006, 05:05 PM NorthernMom2boys,
I had 3 left, 2 with balances under $300 and one with a balance of $1021, they were all paid off yesterday.
As for if it's warm, NO (well today is 74!) but we used electric econo heaters that cost only 3cents an hour to run and we have 3, that's why our electric went up these past couple months BUT we didn't need to get oil in the tank saving us $200-$250 a month or per month and a half.
Again, we also refinanced so we had some extra money from that as well that was used as well. ALSO we used our entire income tax refund check that we got in January to pay off over half of the $10,000 we had in CC debt, after that we put DOUBLE payments to our left over CC's which brought our balances down.
We lived frugally, making food from the pantry, no eating out, etc... That's how we did it. It's not everyday that I could pay off $10,000 in CC debt in a little over 4 months, but I did it and I am proud.
Vannie 04-13-2006, 06:46 PM Congrats. Zero CC debt is awesome :)
midwestgal 04-13-2006, 06:48 PM Wow! That was an amazingly fast pay-off of debt. And I'm going to difinitely look into an Econo-heater for next winter.
