To cause the credit card debt you are trying to pay off (for those of you with credit card debt)? I cannot for the life of me remember what caused me to run my credit cards up so high and they have been around for so long that alot of the stuff I bought is probably long gone! I guess this is just part of the lesson in paying them off so that next time I am tempted to spend on them, I will remember this feeling. Does anyone else look at their credit card debt and not remember what you bought???

Not anymore. But, a few years ago, we had about 3k in cc debt, and I couldn't tell you exactly what we had bought. That has been one of the things that has helped me keep our debt under control.

To be honest, nope, I don't remember what we bought. I can say with certainty it wasn't frivolous stuff, because that was never an issue for us. My best recollection would be things like tires, or a refrigerater or to have a car repaired.

I do distinctly remember getting cash advances several times when my son wa going thru various hip surgeries and husband took a low paying job close to home so he could be with me in the evenings to help lift him out the wheel chair for bathing and stuff like that. That was a very tough time financially that we still have bills left over from......

On a more positive note though, he went back to his old job after sons surgeries were done and we are trying our best to keep an emergency fund in place and also trying to add to it a little at at time so we can avoid the cc's. We just got one paid off with income tax that was about 8,000 dollars. One more cc to go !!! CC's are EVIL ......

Yep. I remember. We bought me a new wardrobe because the illness that depleted our savings necessitated my taking steroids, which made me gain weight. We bought a new air conditioner. We bought new copper lines for the AC. We bought termite treatment for our house. We bought a new AC for one of the cars. We bought dental work for my teeth.

We didn't get into debt because we were living lavishly or spending foolishly. We got into debt because I became terribly sick, and all of my doctors' appointments, prescriptions, ER visits, testing, etc. used up all of our savings.

When I was outta control using the credit card, I used to remember everything and everywhere I used it. I even tracked it. I just never seemed to remember how quickly it added up :(

Well, mine are paid now, thank the Lord (as yours will be), but I remember thinking, what did I buy? And, nope, I couldn't remember most of it.

I used to go haywire at Christmas time buying for family. Also car repairs would get me.

In the past we used them for anything and everything, those are all gone though. Our current CC debt is for dental work. Hubbies CC is used monthly for gas for his car.

Oh, and just used one CC to purchase fence for the garden, pesky deer/rabbits/groundhogs and coons would clean us out without a fence! That will be paid off before interest accrues though.

Which time:) We bought appliances for our apartment when my dh was just out of college and we were having a baby. We used it for the expenses for our wedding (we paid for everything and did it very frugally{less than $3000 for 200 people}). Medical bills, home repairs, car repairs, clothing for the kids when we didn't have money to even thrift shop. Eventually the payments just got so large that we started using credit for some of our bills and gas in the car, kerosene for the heaters, etc...it was a really vicious cycle. I don't remember everything, but I remember enough to know why we need that emergency fund and why we need to build a real savings and weigh our options when we "need" something.

At one point we would use them for just about everything! I am happy to say that they only outstanding debt I have now since joining this group is my car loan.

I remember the big things I bought...

2 - $500 Deductibles on my car insurance. I was hit once by an uninsured driver and once in a hit and run.

1 - Trip to Denver, CO along with a concert ticket Although I did split the trip four ways with other people so around $400.00

1 - Trip to St Louis split four ways $100.00

1 - Ipod with accessories $500

1 - Computer and software for school - $4000.00 total. I paid off the computer already though. Thank goodness.

A bunch of schools supplies when I was in school - (This is probably the bulk of my debt right here.)
Several DVDs, CDs, Video Games
I furnished my apartment
Plus I had a bad habit of putting gasoline, and groceries on the card.
And a few clothes.

Ours got out of control when dh lost his job a few years ago. He found other work right away but it didn't come close to what he had been making. He got a good paying job 3 months later but by then the credit card was at it's limit and we were behind on everything else.

eating out mostly. I dont have any credit card debt right now, but that's probably because I messed up by credit really bad with my first card and they wouldn't give me another one.

I can't remember most of it. I know alot of it was traveling though cause I liked to take a vacation every year and we would charge most of that. We don't do that anymore.
