In any area, what do you consider are basic purchases that are needed for each person?

In the realm of "Beauty" I think the basics include:

~ 1 bar of a pure white soap (I like Ivory Pure)
~ 1 jar of a good moisturizing cream
~ 1 hair brush
~ 1 tube mascara
~ 1 tube eye-liner
~ 1 toothbrush
~ 1 box floss
~ 1 bottle of 2-in-1 conditioner
~ 1 good sharp razor
~ 1 bottle baby oil
~ 1 jar Vasceline

IN the realm of "House Cleaning", I think the basics include:

~ White vinegar
~ Baking soda
~ A Mop
~ A broom and dustpan
~ A couple scrubby sponges
~ A bottle bleach
~ A bottle of laundry detergent
~ A bottle of dish washing detergent
~ SOS pads
~ A dish cloth
~ A dish rack
~ A dish towel

In the realm of "Cooking" I think the basics include:

~ Healthy foods (that's a given)
~ 1 large stock pot
~ 2 saucepans, 1 medium, 1 small
~ A blender
~ 3 wooden spoons
~ A good deep frying pan
~ A spatula
~ A soup ladel
~ A good cutting knife and board

Anyone have anything to add?

Well, for beauty, I have to add hair gel or cream. I have naturally curly-to-the-point-of-kinky hair. If I don't have hair gel I look like Albert Einstein with curls. For the same reason, I need a good detangling conditioner. and a pick or wide toothed comb. I would add lip balm to a basic list as well.

For house cleaning I would add garbage bags, borax, a vacuum and a feather duster.

For cooking, I would add a coffee pot, a food processor instead of a blender, a mixer, a collander, cookie sheets, baking dishes, muffin pan and someone to clean it all up when I am done ! LOL

For general household repair (I'm the handyman around here!), I can't live without my battery-powered screwdriver, hammer, drill, measuring tape (though my ds often makes off with it!!) and sander.

My can opener makes things awhole lot easier! Also my flat top stove and the automatic ice maker. Love my big kitchen aid mixer.

I can't live without my Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It really does make cleaning things like the tub or the stove sooo much easier!

I'd make my own conditioner and use olive oil for moisturizer if I needed more and was strapped for cash.

Cooking:

a large pot
a medium pot
a cast iron fry pan
a slotted spoon
a holey spoon
a turner
a food processor (I use mine a LOT)
a good knife
a dishcloth
a dishtowel
soap to wash dishes
metal scrubbie
a set of mixing bowls
a pitcher
a spatula

For household cleaning:
vinegar
baking soda
mop
broom and dustpan

I have used olive oil on my face and it's fabulous! This thread has reminded me - thanks - I'm going to do it more often. also - hair conditoner is great instead of shaving foam/ gel for your legs.
