what book(s) would you guys recommend to someone who is trying to get a savings together and at the same time paying off debts?

My favorite is Debt-Proof Living by Mary Hunt.

First, I would recommend Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover. That deals with the money issues. I also like Larry Burkett's books. (He's also a Christian money guy.)

Second, I would recommend Janet Luhr's The Simple Living Guide. I've found that for me, it's a great resource for getting myself into a mindset of being content with what I have and not wanting for more. Helps put the spending bug into perspective.

I also have enjoyed The Tightwad Gazette, although it's a little more extreme than I'm willing to go on many things. Some really good ideas and advice in it.

Your Money or Your Life by Joe and Vicki Dominguez.
It will provide the motivation and will get rid of the deprived/poor-me feeling.
