Marie, you're pretty close to me. We head down to Syracuse way at least once a month :) Marie78 03-30-2007, 04:18 AM I must live close to you Heather, I am maybe 20 minutes from down town Syracuse. I live in a suburb and I appreciate being close to as many conveniences as I am, I don't like driving very far in our winter weather :). I know where Port Byron is, I think it's pretty close to Auburn, NY :) RJsGrl 03-30-2007, 02:04 PM yes :-) Port Byron is a little one-stoplight town on the Erie Canal. About 10 mins from Auburn. Marie78 03-30-2007, 02:12 PM yes :-) Port Byron is a little one-stoplight town on the Erie Canal. About 10 mins from Auburn. I grew up not too far from their in another one stoplight town :) I still love to go back and visit my mom and the rest of my family. RJsGrl 03-30-2007, 02:24 PM It was such a huge culture shock for me to move to the Houston area at 14, and I'm glad my parents made the move... I had never seen or interacted with kids my own age who weren't white, simply because Port Byron is a predominately white community. Don't get me wrong, my parents did teach me that everyone is equal in God's eyes and that whites are no better than anyone else. But when we moved to TX, I have to say I was Very intimidated by the mix of cultures and wasn't quite sure how to go about making friends! I can say It was an easy thing to do once I got past the ignorant stereotypes the TV had given me as a kid! LOL! I love Upstate NY, but I really wish my town had been more diversified so I could have grown up more knowledgeable about other cultures! RJsGrl 03-30-2007, 02:29 PM If I get the chance to make a trip up to NY again sometime in the future, I would LOVE to get together for coffee & a play date for the kids with any of you. I love making friends and always need more of them! (Plus, I need a REAL slice of pizza, they don't know how to make it here!!!) Marie78 03-31-2007, 01:10 AM I am visiting NYC tomorrow (2nd time ever) and I am determined that this time I will have a slice of NYC pizza. Everyone says it's the best, but I need to taste it for myself :). RJsGrl 03-31-2007, 02:25 AM HaHa Believe it or not, I've never even been to NYC. I guess I will go someday and try that pizza too! cherrie79 03-31-2007, 12:46 PM I think I have lived in almost every section of NY, except Northern NY. I was born and raised and currently living in Lancaster, NY (Suburb of Buffalo). I have lived in Cooperstown (OMG REALLY SMALL town..that didn't last long). I also lived in Rochester for a year. My all time favorite place was Brooklyn, NY. If it wasn't sooooo expensive to live there, I would move back. Maybe in a couple of years. I lived there for 6 years. RJsGrl 03-31-2007, 02:29 PM nice :cherry: I'm too afraid to go to the city... :hmmm: but then again maybe I'm just letting those stereotypes get the best of me again LOL! Before I moved down here I had this picture in my head of cowboys herding cattle down the street and desert everywhere.:lol3: HAHA big mistake! I picture NYC to look like that movie Oliver & Company!:skept: Too many movies? |
