I only read about 90 pages, but I leaned 3 more tricks. I have read so many of you talking about the Tightwad Gazette, I found it on Amazon (I must say, It took over a month to get my copy) I was trying to read it all afternoon, with all kinds of interuptions. Was loving every word ! I can't wait to dive into even more of it. So glad I invested in this book.

Isn't it ironic that a book about saving money is so expensive, lol:) I just checked half.com and it's pretty pricey even used. I did get that one from the library over a year ago, but I never made it all the way through. That's a BIG book:)

I love my CTG, I bought it for myself for my birthday years ago and reread portions of it all the time. It is a great book, I love having all 3 editions in one complete work.

The 3 tricks....well I have heard of people washing out baggies before, but really thought, is this going to save me money and is it worth it? When I stop and think about all those baggies we have thrown away...I'm going to give it a try. Also the one were you can save on toilet paper by flattening the roll...so it doesn't turn as easily (had to go do that one, right away).
Also making your own price book..so you can see if that is really a deal or not. This last one should help me alot, I sometimes look and a sale and think is that a deal or not?

I searched all over for a good price on this book. The best I found was on abebooks.com. It's a clearinghouse for many, many used booksellers. I bought my copy of the Complete Tightwad Gazette (all 3 books in 1) for $8.57 including shipping!

I checked out the copy of the complete Tightwad Gazette from my library. I am only about 60 pages (book is about 500 pgs) but I love the tips. I wanted to look at the book before purchasing it. I might have to buy it to keep it on hand.

That's where I got my copies, too! (I have 1 and 2, going to search for vol. 3 soon!) I think I paid between $3-4 each book.

This set of books completely changed my life. I know it may sound silly that someone you don't know could have such a profound influence on you. I read the books years ago and dallied with the concept. When I made the decision this year to change my way of life, I went right back to the books and reread them. They hold a place of honor on my shelves. It seems everytime I read something from them my desire to save is renewed and I learn something that relates to the situation I am in at that moment.

suzy saver, i also learnt from tWg- reusing the plastic the cereal boxes for wax paper, i would fold it away and store. We never keep the boxes of anything to long.beacuse in the other house the glue on the box can attract ants, and thats when we use to fold and save all the boxes for recycling, they would go after them.
*i save all twists on the top of the cookie bags for another time.
*we recycle everything here so i take off the metal strip on the aluminum foil and cut it a certain length and glue each corner to reuse as hangers in back of pictures.

It's just amazing how many little changes can be made and how they can really add up. I am making the change to cloth napkins over the last 2 weeks, it's hard to break that habit of grabbing those paper towels...but I have noticed a huge drop in usage, I even cut the last roll in 1/2 (anyone now of an easy way to do that?). I saved that sliver of bar soap in the shower and reworked it into the new bar. I was in my pantry the other day and realized I still have enough to make 2 batches of laudry soap...I plan on doing this on saturday. Want to try that refrigerater dough recipe also. She really teaches you just to think about things in a whole different way and how you can reuse something....I saved 2 large scoopable cat litter jugs and this will be for my laundry soap. The other day I got really tired of filling those little hand soap dispensers in the bathroom and kitchen...there so small. I took 2 empty dishwashing liquid soap bottles took the top of and found that the squirters would fit....all I needed was a longer tube to fit to the end so it could reach the bottom, I had extra spray bottles and found the straw part fit. I have a nice large bottle of squirtable hand soap (diluted of course). She has unleashed my frugal creativity !

It is a great book, isn't it? I've been slowly rereading my copy in the past few weeks. Last week I made homemade Cracker Jacks using a recipe from the book. It was delicious! (But I had to floss after eating it every time. It's a little stickier than the commercial version!)
