View Full Version : Favorite Aldi Foods?
2boys2girls 10-02-2006, 06:30 PM What are some of the favorite foods you get at Aldi's? Ours just opened so I've only been a few times, but this is what I have found so far.
Lite and Fit canned ruby red grapefruit sections
Lite and Fit baked nacho chips
chewy granola bars
salsa monterey jack cheese
half and half
boxed pasta salad
frozen ravioli
cream of soups
I haven't tried many of their meats yet. How are the frozen chicken breasts and such?
Just curious.
Thanks!
Whitney
severina 10-02-2006, 07:24 PM I buy all of our meat at Aldi. The chicken breasts and chicken tenders are good. We tend to use the tenders more often because the breasts take longer to cook than the smaller tenders pieces.
We also like their frozen fish and the frozen pre-made hamburgers.
sunshine 10-02-2006, 08:29 PM We love their:
breads
boxed cereals
butter crackers (like Ritz)
lunch meats (bologna, ham, etc)
Too many other things to list
We don't like their:
tuna
cheese slices
canned beef stew
kabin63 10-02-2006, 09:08 PM I buy all the canned tomatoes and stewed tomatoes, many other canned veggies, cheesse, shicken, frozen tilapia fish, premade hamburgers and frozen ground turkey. Also buy frozen OJ, and veggies, shredded cheese, yogurt, milk, eggs, etc...but our favorite item from Alsi is their Cinnamon Danish's. OMGosh, they are so incredibly good, but fattening, so don't buy them often....LOL Aldi has their own brand name and most things I get there are good, even the canned cream soups. I even buy the Alsi version of Benedryl for my allergies.
nuisance26 10-02-2006, 09:08 PM ~I do most of my food shopping at Aldi and buy many of their products. I don't buy any meat but hamburger there. The frozen meats have solution added and I hate the flavor of it. I also don't buy any of the pickled things or the mayo.....nasty.A few things I think are tasty and a great value are:
Dried cranberries
chocolate chips
.25 refridgerator biscuits(I use these to make donuts)
stuffing mix
all the cereals
ketchup
ranch dressing
mini beef ravioli
pepperoni
cream cheese
half & half
canned diced tomatoes with chilis
medium salsa
sour cream
~Alot of their cookies and danish's are delicious but I try to never buy them because they are NOT a good value compared to homemade.
brainyblonde 10-02-2006, 09:13 PM I buy:
milk
eggs
Sliced deli style cheeses
lowfat cottage cheese
frozen pizzas
sparkling black cherry water (yum!)
fudge bars
I don't buy:
Any fresh fruits or veggies
Any fresh meat
Domestic Gal 10-02-2006, 10:29 PM We like their corned beef hash but do not have it very often as it is loaded with sodium. There sloppy joe sauce is just like manwich. I do not buy a lot of their meats except like lunchoen meats they are good. The only thing I do not like is their cottage cheese. I do not like the texture of it.
Brooke 10-02-2006, 10:45 PM I love their fish sticks and stif fry! Both are really good. Oh and the breakfast sandwiches. I do not like their tomato or cream of mushroom soup. Tastes funny to me!!! Also, a friend of mine bough the cheddar rice cakes and they are really good, tastes like baked cheetos.
PennyPinchinPam 10-02-2006, 11:14 PM I'm so jealous. no Aldi's here. :(
freedeal 10-03-2006, 03:09 PM I do buy:
Canned pineapple
chips
I do not buy:
Taco seasoning (children tasted a difference)
Bread
Fresh Meat
sewsilly 10-03-2006, 04:32 PM I buy lots of things at Aldi's and I love the value that I get for the money.
My probable all-time favorite item is the gourmet peppered bacon.... I dont' get it regularly, but for a treat sometimes... I also like their trail mix, particularly the 'white mountain' one with white chocolate, pineapple and dried cranberries. Last year, I got bunches of this, re-wrapped it in cutesy cellophane bags with curley ribbon and gave it for teachers gifts.
i.m.cheap 10-03-2006, 06:13 PM Chocolate chips

Butter
Instant Onion Soup mix
White Corn Tortilla Chips

Bagels
redmaples 10-03-2006, 07:12 PM Just wondering...
how much is butter at aldi's?
and boxed cereal?
DixieJ 10-03-2006, 08:21 PM I buy a lot of items for baking at aldi: sugar, oil, butter, sour cream, cream cheese. I like several of their canned goods, I buy their version of Rotel.
I also buy cheese, milk and eggs there too.

she who can not cook 03-21-2007, 04:12 PM titan choc bars and racer choc bars are my fav
Marie78 03-30-2007, 01:52 AM I have so many favorite things: canned mandarin oranges, canned veggies, stewed tomatoes, cream soups, tomato soup(I use it in my hamburger mac & cheese casserole), cereals, oatmeal, noodles, jar sauce, kitty litter, moist 9 Lives cat food, tp, soap, automatic dish detergent, bagels, frozen orange juice, block cheese, canned biscuits, white sugar, brown sugar, flour, vanilla extract, cake mixes, box puddings, choc. chips, cooking spray, vegetable oil. I like most things at Aldi: I won't buy the meat or produce at my store, I like the way they look in my regular grocery store better.
foxxyroxie 03-30-2007, 05:37 AM I can only think of 1 thing I won't buy again at Aldi's and that's their big bag of cat food... the cats refuse to eat it. The only way I've found that they'll eat it is yesterday I poured water from tuna over it... then they chowed. The dog seems to like his ok, but he'll eat a lot of things, of which I won't mention.
The one thing I loved and Aldi's doesn't carry anymore is Earl Grey tea... the carried it I think for 1 holiday season and discontinued it. They still carry a few specialty teas, but not Earl Grey :weeping:
We don't buy their milk, bread or fresh meats. I can get them elsewhere cheaper. I can comparison shop on their produce. If it looks good and price is good, I buy it. I haven't had any problems with their produce as other on FV have. Onions, potatoes, apples and oranges (until the prices went through the ceiling) have all been good buys and good quality.
Some of our favs we buy are lunch meats, salad, shredded cheese and cheese slices, oatmeal, cereal (who can beat $1.09 for cornflakes or $1.69 for the most popular flavors like honey-nut Os, bran/raisins, fruity Os, cocoa rice), boxed frozen chicken (a family favorite, frozen ground turkey (79 cents a lb).
i.m.cheap 03-30-2007, 11:22 AM We do like their milk, but sometimes other stores will have milk on sale cheaper than Aldi. If there are no milk sales, I buy it at Aldi. We really like their Strawberry Frozen Fruit Bars (novelty on a stick). They are so good! It is like eating frozen strawberries on a stick. They are full of real fruit. Yum! They are kind of pricey, at 4 for $1.99, but then strawberries are expensive too. The bars are big, 4 oz. each.
paintedsky 03-31-2007, 11:48 PM This is an interesting thread to see what to try there. The only fruits I've bought their is bananas. Their mushrooms look ok but never bought them yet. I really like their corned beef. And I get their frozen maple sausage patties regularly as well. I like to get some of their cheap theme food as well which seems to change on occasion. Only bread I ever got there was frozen hawaiian king rolls for 10 cents a bag! I stocked up on like 6 of them I think lol Couldn't fit anymore in freezer and tasted as good as any other store that carries them. Also I get sometimes their frozen veggies and their cream puffs are the best. Better than any name brand. I don't get too much there but I do go especially for certain items which is cheaper and tastes good there. I sometimes also see a random snack that looks interesting that I'll grab.
I however skip their milk and dairy products. I usually go organic eggs and egglands best eggs. I also don't have their meat. Other places are better deals and fresher and larger selection.
lullabell 05-31-2007, 05:40 AM I shop mainly at save a lot now (closer). when I do get to Aldi's I always head for the frozen section and the yogurts.
They have so many "goodies" in the frozen section. All the stir fries and frozen convieniance foods are sooooo good. They have alot of good ice creams and junk foods too.
tbs727 05-31-2007, 02:16 PM I buy the frozen ground turkey for .79 a pound.
I like their yogurt, cereal, lunchmeat, block and shredded cheese. These are the items i get the best deal for.
Raven 05-31-2007, 09:41 PM I do most of my shopping at Aldi's and a local big discount grocery store. My favorite thing there is their $2 pizza!! It is the best frozen pizza I have ever tried! I also like their pasta salads and spaghetti sauce. Their is just to many to list. Their ground turkey is a pretty good deal, I used to buy it all the time, but then I discovered Woodman's had ground sausage for only 10 cents more and I like that better in spaghetti and either dishes.
