BUT---your son is DARLING! Amanda W 12-20-2006, 08:13 PM I think she means people who wear their children in the baby carrier/sling type things. Like a Baby Bjorn. (Correct me if I'm wrong here.) northernmom2boys 12-20-2006, 09:39 PM I googled it and it is people who carry babies in slings and carriers Telephus44 12-21-2006, 09:03 PM I will if I have to leave my apartment to get the mail or take out the trash, but I don't "wear" my son all the time. luvof2boyz 12-21-2006, 09:33 PM I was a babywearer with my first son. I read all the Dr Sear's books and followed attachment parenting. My first DS was a high need baby. I do not babywear DS #2 as often because he loves to be on the floor watching his brother play. I have used all types of carriers; slings(padded and unpadded), baby bjorn. The baby bjorn with the lumbar support is my favorite. mommymath 12-22-2006, 11:40 AM DS lived in my Over the Should Baby Holder sling until he was 2.5! Just like a baby kangaroo! (Didn't hurt that he was very tiny.) He taught class with me, did chores, etc. all happy as a clam as long as he was in his pouch. He'd nurse and I'd have people come right up and admire him and not even know he was nursing. :) AmyMCGS 12-22-2006, 12:04 PM Me! I wear DS a lot-- at home, in stores, whatever. He loves it. I had a big padded adjustable sling with DD and did not like it. With DS, I bought a fitted cloth sling, and it's wonderful. I wish I'd have known about this sling with DD because it is so much more comfortable for me and DS doesn't get "swallowed up" in all the extra padding and fabric. Mine is from this company: http://www.newnativebaby.com/ but I bought it new off eBay. mom2three 12-30-2006, 02:46 PM I use different carriers depending on the baby. DD1 loved the Snugli and the sling and would also spend periods of time on the floor playing with toys. DD2 did not like any that I had and had to be carried in arms oe let down to move - she is two and I have a hard time keeping up!. DD3 hates the Snugli, loves the larger ring sling that I have and also spends lots of time playing on the floor. I have a hip carrier that I am starting to use so I can carry DD2 and DD3 together to walk to DD1 busstop! I have material to make a wrap now and will see how that goes - so yes, I am a babywearer! Lisahas2cats 12-30-2006, 03:41 PM I used to carry DD everywhere in her sling! I made it from some batik fabric I bought at Walmart, and it certainly got people's attention. She's 26 months old now and itty bitty, but she rarely lets me "wear" her anymore :(....it's like putting an angry wet cat in baby clothes, so I just don't bother! Wendy.Cooper 01-13-2007, 02:42 AM We did too! He's three now... We still drag the ergo carrier we have with us when he's walking and we know we're going to be out for a long time. Especially if we're going to NYC for the day. I had a hot sling that I just sent to my sister (she just had her third in November) - he cries when she puts him in it though so we're hoping that changes or she's going to get a different one to try with him. I also sent her the one shoulder baby bjorn one I had. I'm not big on ring slings but maybe I was wearing it incorrectly. :) Wendy SHOPGIRL 01-13-2007, 06:42 PM Yes, I have a sling and a baby bjorn carrier. I love the Baby Bjorn carrier. I use it when I need to get things done in the house and my babies need to be held. My husband has better luck with the sling. 2boys2girls 01-14-2007, 12:09 PM I have "worn" all of mine, and plan to wear this one. I have a Maya Wrap sling, a simple ringsling and 3 slingling pouches. I love the flexibility and the closeness you get by wearing your baby. Check out www.thebabywearer.com, they have tons of resources about babywearing. warramra 01-14-2007, 03:05 PM I have had slings and carriers for all my children - but I have progressively worn them more with each child - got to have my hands free for the other kids. I have one ring sling that was really handy with my son recently since he was so tiny (4lbs at birth), and two pocket slings. I also have one front pack carrier. patra 01-14-2007, 11:40 PM I never wore my daughter, she wouldnt have it!!I plan on trying to carry my son in a sling when he is born-three more days to go! Patty Lady_V 04-09-2007, 10:26 AM I had a snugli for DD when we were in Cambodia (before I brought her home) she was 15 months, 17 pounds and about 19 inches long. I wasn't too crazy about the design on her, I wished I had brought my Bjorn instead. I was able to keep my hands free while I dealt with the embassy, shopped, and yes, even RAN away from locals. (Long story short, when the agency says DONT give people any money... they mean it) DD would go in the Bjorn whenever we went out, around the house when I wasn't doing dishes or laundry or anything with chemicals etc. DD was adopted and I missed out on 15 months of bonding with her, I would STILL have her in a bjorn if she wasn't only 10 inches shorter than me  Okay, maybe not in a Bjorn now but... I honestly think it's because she had that close contact with me that now at a few weeks away from turning 7, she will come crawl up on my lap and ask to be held... will come lay on my back when I am on the floor... and, when she wants hurt/scared she will come to me and the way I hold her is very simular to the way she sat in the Bjorn. That's my story... I didn't consider it as wearing my baby, she wasn't accessory... I was bonding with her, the only way I could. pita1213 04-10-2007, 01:17 PM i used a sling and front carrier with both of mine.with dd it was the only way i could carry her, a diaper bag, stroller, and keep track of her brother when we took the bus anywhere. i didn't drive at the time so we took the bus everywhere when dh was at work.now i use a sling with my niece that i babysit i put her in it when we take my kids to teh bus and i bring it along whenever we will be out for awhile because i don't have the strentgh in my arms to carry her for long. lullaby80 04-10-2007, 02:22 PM I used a moby wrap with DS when he was a newborn - he hated it (as did I, we were both sweating in it). Next I tried a Mamma's Milk adjustable pouch - he loved it from about 3 months onwards in the buddha/kangaroo position. After about 4 months I bought a Sutemi pack and this was probably the best investment in baby things we made, it has been great! At 9 months and 24lbs he still loves riding in it and if we're out usually falls asleep in it as well. I did babywearing more for my own convenience than attachment parenting but recommend it for everyone, it is nice to snuggle that close to your baby. :) AtHomeWithMAMA 05-04-2007, 04:42 PM I use a maya wrap with my daughter and she has loved it since the day we started.. like at 2 weeks i think. Wearing your baby has soooooooo many benefits for both mother and child. If you haven't tried it, I would definatley recommend it! Maya wraps can be used in so many different ways that it's easy to change if she gets tired of one position, or change as they grow. Radish4ever 05-04-2007, 05:15 PM I am! I hated the ring slings but I LOVE my hotsling, new native carrier, and I also have a lightweight snuggli that is good in a pinch. :) Ani 05-12-2007, 11:55 PM I plan to wear Oliver as soon as my incision heals up enough that it doesn't hurt to have him continually kicking me there. :) He LOVES to be held, and with me beginning to work at home within the next 4 - 6 weeks, I think it will be a lifesaver. We have a baby wrap, but I might need to get/try other types of carriers, depending on how he ends up responding to being wrapped. We bought the wrap because my hubby is a bigger guy, and I am a smaller girl, and it would fit both of us with ease. teresaabsurd 05-12-2007, 11:58 PM Those things always fit me funny. I don't understand why. I ended up getting a lot of use out of my carrier/stroller combo. And now that we have the two babies my husband's aunt donated a double stroller to us. We get a lot of use from that too. :) Radish4ever 05-13-2007, 02:00 AM Check out www.hyenacart.com and do a search for some carriers - there are some awesome WAHMs that make a variety of carriers - wraps, pouches, slings, etc :) |
