Now tomorrow hopefully I'll be able to rest up and read.....

When I need to be inspired or feel deprived, I reread my TMMO and get a high on some common sense. How dare I feel deprived when we were the ones that got ourselves into debt in the first place?:dunce:

This book shows you that you are doing this for you and your family.

I really enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. I'm actually getting ready to read it again:) I'm so grateful to the wonderful lady who gave it to me. It has changed my entire perspective. I have a copy of Financial Peace someone is going to loan me as well. I can't wait to get it.

Well I got mine yesterday at the library and I am in the middle of the book and it is hard to put down. I have been telling dh things that I have gotten out of it. I think we can get a handle on things and move forward which we are really looking forward to.

I think it is a great read and it is hard to put down. I'll have to check out the other book and see what it is have to call the library and see what they have to say about it took me about 2 weeks to get TTMO book but I think so far it is well worth the wait.

I got it at the library this week too. I think I actually read it once before. Anyway, I took some money out of savings yesterday and combined it with our med flex account reimbursement check, and paid off our cc! Dh wasn't too happy with that, altho he does agree with Dave on not paying interest on cc that is higher than interest earnings on a savings acct. I was thinking about taking the rest of the savings and putting it on our car loan (the last thing we have besides our mortgage) but decided I'd better leave more than $1000 cushion in savings, for dh's sake. He was unemployed for 16 months a couple of years ago, and I think it really scares him to see such low balances in the accounts!

Unless you have another EF, Dave recommends keeping at least a $1000 in the bank for emergencies. It is amazing how much better I feel knowing that that money is in the bank if I have to use it.

I got the book this week too from the library and read it in a day :loop: It was great!!! We are starting ASAP and building our EF and should have the $1000 funded by the end of Feb. and then start hacking at debt.

I've read it before but I think I'd like to read it again. Just have to put it on reserve at the library which I can do online.

I'm having trouble getting started. I feel really optimistic about the plan in general, really I do. BUT where do you start when you are struggling just to pay the immediate bills and keep the lights on, etc? :box:

I started reading the TMMO book last night, but guess I wasn't quite tuned in since I was soooo tired. :ponder:

Can someone please help me get over this hurdle? :feedback:

Thanks a bunch!!!

oldvter ~ The first thing that you need to do is write out your budget. Write down every monthly bill/expense you have, every debt you have, how far behind you are on things etc. You also need to write out what you spend on variable expenses a month (food, gas, entertainment etc) as well as your income. I'm happy to help you work through some of the numbers if you feel comfortable posting them. I'm not the most frugal person here, but I'm really great with numbers. Another community that might be of some help to you is the Dave Ramsey specific community, http://www.livinglikenooneelse.com. They are really good with budget critiques, and have separate forum sections for each baby step in the plan etc. Just a warning though, they are VERY good with constructive criticism, and are none too gentle about picking apart any holes they see in your plans or budget. I personally really like that, but I can see others getting their feelings hurt over it.

Hope that helps! Feel free to private message me or respond back here, whichever is fine.

can anyone give me the lowdown on the difference between TMMO and Financial Peace. I have read TMMO but not the other.

thanks :)

I read the TMMO first, so I'm kinda partial to that book. I got the Financial Peace Revisited book in my FPU kit. I really like it, as well. It has more life stories in it and goes a bit more in debt on certain aspects of his message. However, the TMMO, I feel, is the 'plan', more clear cut. Financial Peace has more 'message'. At least, that's how they appear to me.

I like them both and reread them both ever so often to get a different spin.

If I were to have to pick which book for a friend to read, I'd pick Financial Peace for them if they were confused why being in debt is bad. If my friend was sick of debt and wanted a plan, I'd give them the TMMO book.

Hope that helps. :D

I read the TMMO last week. I read half of it on the day I picked it up from the library. I finished it within two days! I love the book and I am starting the steps. I might read Financial Peace next, just for more motivation. I really liked the stories in TMMO.

I just read the TMMO yesterday! I love love love this book and am ready to start the plan. Hopefully dh will be as enthusiastic about it. He comes home today so I can't wait to tell him all about it. I'm ready to get that debt knocked down!

I really like the tmmo, I want to read the new edition that is out. I think that would help people who have been on the program for a while because it is supposed to be the same information with just some more additional success stories!
