Emerald_Mommy 01-19-2007, 12:15 PM Dave said on his show this week that this may not be the "kinder, gentler Dave" but the "in your face" Dave on 20/20 tonight. He's not sure how he was edited. Can't wait to find out! :) miaumiau 01-19-2007, 12:21 PM Thanks for letting us know. I will definitely be waiting in front of the TV tonight. dolphin 01-19-2007, 12:23 PM I saw it advertised this morning on the morning news show and had already decided I want to see it. Friday evening? :) Yes, Friday, 1/19. 3-boys-4-me 01-19-2007, 03:47 PM Thanks so much for sharing. I can't wait to see it, sounds interesting. rosebron 01-19-2007, 05:44 PM Thanks for the info. I'm staying at home tonight! lilk 01-19-2007, 08:39 PM Its true, I heard it on his show yesterday. I will be watching. Buckeye5 01-19-2007, 08:43 PM Me Too, I will be watching, it is pretty sad, when it is a Friday night, and DH and DS are at a high school boys basketball game, and I am watching the clock for the 20/20 show and Dave Ramsey?/ Says a lot about me, huh???LOL, hahhaaaha Amanda W 01-20-2007, 12:07 AM Well...I enjoyed all 30 seconds of Dave that they showed. He's such a great speaker and so inspiring, I'm surpised that they didn't air more footage of him. It was a good show though. Those people with the walk-in wine celler that only had 4 bottles of wine...oy vay!! Emerald_Mommy 01-20-2007, 12:15 AM Yeah, I would have liked to have seen more than 30 seconds of Dave. Still, the show was interesting. I'll bet anything that the family they showed at the beginning doesn't make the changes they need to. They just did not seem on board with getting out of debt, as a family. I think you have to reach that point where you say, "This is insane, we can't do this any more" and I don't think I heard that from them, JMO, of course. :) MrsMcDowell 01-20-2007, 01:04 AM Did anyone else think it was inappropriate to show footage of the Dustin Diamond sex video? I mean it's great that he saved his house from foreclosure and is making money from his little porno, but that is NOT what I wanted to watch. On the positive side, watching this with dh made us have a really good talk about debt, our financial goals etc. I even pulled out Financial Peace Revisited and showed him stuff. He suggested we see a financial planner.....we get them free thru MilitaryOneSource.....kicker is that I suggested that months ago and he said no.. :) northernmom2boys 01-20-2007, 01:13 AM I couldnt believe that there were actual websites where you could beg for money!!!!Im sorry but how on gods green earth do you know if the people really need the money or are just ripping people off?oh my PplAmanda 01-20-2007, 01:42 AM I also thought it was not appropriate to show the Dustin Diamond sex video part. For crying out loud! That is just what younger people need to see... solve all your problems.. have sex on tape for money! Sorry.. just needed to rant for a moment :) Marie78 01-20-2007, 01:44 AM I liked the program tonight. I agree that the family with the $60,000 debt didn't seem to understand that they "needed" to do what the financial planner was suggesting. The woman said..."so at the end of the day if we do this plan, all we will have are our things and $3,000 but no place to live." I thought after seeing their home and what they owed, the fact that they were getting to keep their belongings and two nice cars, and in addition, they would still have $3,000 to their names was a pretty good deal for them! I guess they weren't really able to accept the situation yet. I tried putting myself in their shoes, and if that ever happened to me I hope I would be smart enough to listen to what that planner was saying to me. Michelle 01-20-2007, 07:17 AM I'm going to need to check their website...I fell asleep before 20/20 even started  Buckeye5 01-20-2007, 10:44 AM I was so.......disappointed in the show. I thought the majority of the show was about beggers will do anything to make money. The porn thing, that should have been a different show altogether, the lady on the net begging people to help pay for her shoes etc. , different show, I thought Dave Ramsey would have had more than a few second cameo, just was so disappointed at the end, I anticipated watching that all evening, what a let down!!!! i.m.cheap 01-20-2007, 11:08 AM I also was disappointed in the show. I thought the couple with the huge debt weren't really wanting to get out of debt. They took several vacations in the last year. If I was in their shoes, and could eliminate all of my debt by doing what the financial planner said, then I would. They can always buy another house, the husband makes good money. Or they could RENT, like we do. Bethany 01-20-2007, 11:33 AM The show was a good deal of fluff. That couple was bizarre in my opinion. The financial planner literally said to them that they were like the Titanic about to hit an iceberg but they still thought vacations, cars, and a fancy home was something they could not do without. They are brainwashed by the media and this empty consumer culture that we live in. Did anyone else notice that the woman had this blank expression on her face the whole time? I thought that she was literally "brain washed" by commercialism and excess marketing. She was so closed-minded about other choices that may be out there. Get rid of the TWO timeshares, get a job (the woman didn't work I think), get cheaper cars, etc. It's a no-brainer!! i.m.cheap 01-20-2007, 11:56 AM They paid $100,000 for one time-share!!!! That just blows my mind. Anybody that stupid deserves to be in debt up to their eyeballs. It would have been nice if they could have featured someone that sincerely WANTED to get out of debt. That couple took their last vacation, a cruise, just because the wife was "stressed out". Stressed out from what, too much shopping? What a spoiled "princess" she was. i.m.cheap 01-20-2007, 12:06 PM DH was watching with me, and when they featured the Economides family as "The Cheapest Family in America", he just said, "I think they got that wrong, because the cheapest family in America is US!" I did notice they said that family only grocery shopped once a month. I am always puzzled by families that can shop once a month. What about perishables, like milk and produce? Also, I like to take advantage of WEEKLY sales. What if you use lots of chicken, but it is not on sale when it is time for your monthly shopping trip? It might be on sale the following week. I menu plan around what is in the freezer/pantry stockpile and what is in the weekly grocery ad. I almost never buy anything at regular price, with the exception of milk and eggs. Even those two things I will buy at the store that has the best price on them that week. They needed to show a "Dumpster diving family" LOL. The interviewer seemed so surprised that the "Cheapest Family" bought so many things USED! Our family even rescues "curbside finds" and sells them for profit at our annual garage sale! Emerald_Mommy 01-20-2007, 03:38 PM Yeah, I think Philip was a little annoyed that one family took "our" title of "cheapest family in America". ;) Where's my 20/20 special? And the Dustin Diamond stuff: :yucky: I did not need to see that! That did not need to be in that particular show. (or any show in my opinion!) I think Martin Bashir was right when he said that woman was shamless (the woman who begged for money on the internet). I cannot imagine asking anyone to support my shoe/belt/handbag habit like that! (Not that I have one.) banana 01-20-2007, 04:15 PM I wish they would have shown more on the cheapest family! I'll take all the tips I could get. Hollyhandi 01-20-2007, 05:09 PM Guess I'm glad I missed it. Sounds very sad kaykwilts 01-21-2007, 01:36 AM I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in thinking the Dustin Diamond segment was not appropriate. Just what does that have to do with the average American anyway. I too thought the first couple was not really serious about getting out of debt. I would have advised them differently. I would have told them to sell off as much as their stuff as possible, sell the cars and drive old cars like Dave advises. I would have told them to get into a house about half the size they were in. I bet she could have sold a ton of stuff in that house to pay off the debt. I don't think she really got it that they were in trouble. she was living in a dream world. She only lives for today. If she does not change her ways soon I see that marriage going down the tubes. pammy 01-21-2007, 10:14 AM I too thought the first couple was not really serious about getting out of debt. I agree!! Wonder if it would have made any impact on the wife if someone told her if they didn't change their ways she just might have to.... OMG... go out and get a JOB to help support their habits. That mighta woke her up. The hubby looked like he was willing to do anything to get out of this mess. Jenna 01-23-2007, 09:19 PM Their monthly household income of $8,750 isn't enough to cover all of their expenses, which total $15,000 a month. For over a year, the Petersons have relied on credit cards to keep afloat financially. *The family from the show. No empathy here. littlemotherhaywood 01-24-2007, 08:45 PM I watched it too and the one minute I stepped out the room was when Dave aired. I couldn't believe it was that quick. I was pretty disgusted by both the over consumerized family they spotlighted and Dustin Diamond. I had the "privilege" of meeting him a few years ago at a comedy club I worked at and he was quite arrogant and full of himself. Just like he presented on tv. There will likely never be a show about people that live like the people here. It's not always glamorous or fun or easy and America doesn't like the truth. They want to believe they can have everything when they want it. It's a shame. I just couldn't believe the way those people lived. Everytime you think you've seen it all.... claimsgirl66 01-24-2007, 08:50 PM I watched the show too and wonder if they will do some sort of follow up with that family---see if they followed the suggestions of the financial advisor & where they are in 6 months or a year. That would be interesting. i.m.cheap 01-24-2007, 09:44 PM I watched the show too and wonder if they will do some sort of follow up with that family---see if they followed the suggestions of the financial advisor & where they are in 6 months or a year. That would be interesting. I predict in one year they will be: 1. Bankrupt 2. Divorced pammy 01-25-2007, 10:20 AM On a good note, on Monday's show, Dave said he did have fun at the interview, even if his part was small and edited. He felt like there was a connection with the people from 20/20, and sounded hopeful for a future special with more 'Dave-like' advice. Here's hoping!! :D |
