Are you teaching the home ec, about frugality, life skills? Do they work on woodworking, building, animal care? Are there other lessons your working on besides just the 3 R's all the time?

Since we have two Australian Shepherds, ds is learning about caring for pets (feeding, making sure they have water, grooming, vet visits, etc.).

We make lots of art/craft/painting projects.

Ds loves to help me bake so I include him in that.

As he gets older this list will expand. :)

Dd takes care of the goats on the weekend, the fish every day, and helps out with the cats, and she goes to the vet with me so she can watch. I'm slowly teaching her how to cook; she doesn't have a lot of interest in cooking. I've taught her to cross-stitch and she is beginning to learn stenciling and enjoys stamping. I plan to start teaching her how to sew this winter and to do simple crochet. She is definitely learning to clip coupons and look out for sales, lol. We are teaching her about money; saving, earning, etc; she only gets an allowance if she does all her chores each week, if she doesn't do them then she doesn't get paid. DH works with her on learning computer skills and they recently fixed up an old bike together with her doing a lot of the work while he coached her. As she gets a little older dh will teach her some basic car care skills/repair, basic household repairs, etc.

I guess basically we are teaching her most of the things that we know so she will have a lot of life skills when she goes out into the world on her own. She watches us and helps out with just about everything around here as well as keep up with her school work and participate in church youth activities.

Even though my boys go to public schools, we pick a topic every summer to study informally. Last summer it was WWII, this summer was pioneer living. I feel it's important to supplement their "regular" education, especially in this day of budget cuts!
