View Full Version : Career to Home kith Sara Noel 02-12-2007, 10:49 AM Who else transitioned from career to home? Michelle 02-12-2007, 11:05 AM :wave2: I did...8 yrs ago I was a circulation & distribution manager for an international publishing co. When Dave found a better-paying job and I learned I was pregnant w/Lauren, we decided that we could afford for me to stay home :) Sara Noel 02-12-2007, 11:20 AM 8 years for me too. Blows my mind that it's been 8. If anyone had asked me 10 yrs ago where I'd be in 10 yrs, I never would have guessed. Michelle 02-12-2007, 12:04 PM Me either...I was always prepared to be a career woman. Never would have pictured myself as a SAHM/homemaker. I struggled with that decision big time. I remember crying about it wondering if I was doing the right thing. Now I think I did the right thing by my kids, but it wasn't a good move career-wise. :dis: Dedlered 02-12-2007, 12:42 PM I was a sahm for about 2 years, then I had to go back to work, being in the house was driving me bonkers. Now, ds is 14 and I would really rather be at home i.m.cheap 02-12-2007, 03:06 PM I can't say that I left a "career". Most of my adult life, I was more of a "wage slave". I held a position as a retail store manager for a while. The pay was good, but the hours were brutal. Most of the time, I worked as a waitress. I even owned a cafe many years ago. That was the hardest I ever worked. Ninety hour weeks were the norm. I am finally home full-time, as of last October. It was a gradual thing, I worked part-time for two years before quitting altogether. SewCrafty 02-12-2007, 04:42 PM I have been home now for 6 years and boy oh boy am I happy! :fdance: I didn't mind working, but I have always been a home body and really just prefer it. pita1213 02-12-2007, 10:38 PM i have done it once and in the process of doing it again. when we moved from Va to CT it would have cost more than i could make to pay for childcare so i stayed home. that was a big and somewhat difficult transition that first year. we moved to a state where i knew no one other than dh and dks.got most of my adult conversation online until dh came home in the evenings. the second and third years were much better. then we moved back to va and i had to go back to work. dh has gotten a higher paying job and starts there in a few weeks. then once school is over for the year, i will be a SAHM again. YAY!!!! while the kids are in school i'm going to work part time and we'll put my paycheck towards paying off bills. can't wait till june! movaly1 02-15-2007, 07:31 AM I am going to be a SAHM as of March 16th! I'm very excited but just hope that I don't go crazy due to limited adult interaction. :) Valerie jkelstaten 02-15-2007, 08:44 AM it would have cost more than i could make to pay for childcare so i stayed home. This was our reasoning behind me becoming a SAHM. I wanted to anyway, but the financial part of it just solidfied the decision. I love it and can not ever imagine going to work while my kids are still at home. lisettelovebug 02-17-2007, 01:23 AM I have been a SAHM since January 5 of this year. I had to go back to work for a few months after my daughter was born - she was 4 months old when I quit. It really has been great. I'm taking two classes at local college so that's how I get my adult interaction. The only problem I have is that I don't have much time to get my house clean with a 6 month old.. anyone got any suggestions? |
