I'm a classical violinist and have been in orchestras since I was 11. I am currently in the symphony here in town. I also sang in concert choirs and jazz choirs for years, though this holds much less excitement for me. I have played the guitar for a few years now too, though not often enough!

Any other musicians out there? Who's currently performing as part of a group? I would love it if there were other symphony members out there.

I'm a pianist. I've been playing since I was 7. I currently teach piano lessons after school as my way of staying with it. It's difficult for me to play at home, because as soon as I sit down, I have two other little people sitting on the bench with me, wanting to play. So, my time to play for me is limited. I miss it terribly.

I played the flute from age 8 to age 13. When I transitioned to high school, they had no French Horn players, so they took 3 of the first flutes (myself included) and had us learn the French Horn, so I played the French Horn through high school.

I have also sung my entire life. I was in our church choir from the time I was 7 until about 5 years ago, transitioning from the children's choirs to the adult ones. Our adult choir is something else...we have recordings, etc. I wanted to sing in college, but it butted heads w/the education program with regards to time requirements. Upon graduation, I joined up at the church again and sang in a few specialty choirs. When my daughter was born, I didn't have time again, and I really miss singing in a group, as well as playing an instrument with an ensemble. There is nothing like the blend of the instruments or voices together. I'm an alto, almost a tenor. :)

I recently rejoined our adult handbell choir. I just needed to make music again. Oh, and this is the third year I've been the musical director for our middle school spring musicals. Sounds small time, but they are honestly off-broadway to broadway quality. The star of last years show (Annie) is now at Juilliard.

Hmm..I just started piano and voice lessons at the ripe old age of 35! I am being trained by a wonderful classical painist who also is trained in opera. Started to read music for the first time last week.:mdance:

I've played the guitar since my teenage years and was in a rock band. Recently I have been toying with the idea of taking classical guitar lessons with the hope of one day playing a duet with my daughter who is a violinist.

I'm a pianist. I started lessons when I was 5, took until I was 18. I'm our church pianist and I currently have 2 piano students. (I've been teaching for 8 years and have had more students in the past.) I'd like more but with the baby coming it just doesn't seem like I have time.

I sing in our church choir as well, and in a group sometimes. I'd love to learn guitar (my dad plays) and harp (just because). Music is a major part of my life. :)

I've been playing trombone since I was 9 years old. When DD5 gets older I would love to join one of the local groups that perform. Either the Hobo Band or the Bonsall Blues.

I do, however, play trombone in church every Sunday. :) :band:

I was just logging on to start this kith!!! You are so good.

I am currently recording an album with some friends of mine. I sing lead and harmony, mostly alto/tenor range. We are kind of blues-y music with some folk inspiration. Our drummer, though, is definitely a jazz man. I am also currently learning to play the piano. I do play some percussion. My husband is a drummer, and although he doesn't play in this band, he is part of our worship team at church. He plays drums, conga's, bongo's and the djembe.

After a year's worth of work, our album should be complete this spring.

I was in band (playing alto sax) and choir all through school right up until graduation. I also played in a marching band for five years and was part of a handbell choir for three years. I was in church choir for four years and took alto sax and voice lessons for six and three years, respectively. I don't have my sax anymore, but I still sing every day.

And I really, really want to learn the piano. I've wanted to learn for years.

Let us know when it's out and how to get it. Actually, please pm me with this info, as I seem to lose threads sometimes (my disorganization, no doubt). Seriously, I'd like to buy a copy.

Absolutely! Recently I just sing, usually in a choir, sometimes solo. Oddly enough, I have a reputation for singing well among people who've never heard me sing. Hmmm.

Anyway, back in my earlier days, I played piano, guitar, flute, oboe, sax, clarinet, tuba, and tympani. I was better at oboe than anything else, and got to play under Arthur Fiedler (who terrified me!) I always wanted to learn banjo and harmonica (ok, those would never go under Fiedler) and always wanted to learn to use a mike singing (I'm just loud normally) - so I've still got challenges out there!

Oh I forgot about marching band lol. I was in that for 5 years, now my kids are in the same marching band, so now I'm the auxiliary secretary and the chaperone coordinator. Just my way of giving back to the band that gave me so much :)

Oh, the harp is so beautiful! I love when a harpist plays with our symphony.

I developed heart problems about 15 years ago. Of course medication was the answer. Yeah right. My dh and I watched a program on a doctor who had his patients take harp lessons instead of meds. So I took up the harp and haven't had any heart meds in almost 4 years.

I'm a first soprano, Jo! :D I've sung since I was 11. I don't have a lot of 'style' for solo singing, but I sing well enough to do so in public and do well in small choral groups. In high school, I was in an advanced choir of 24 voices, 3 on a part for 8 part music. I also did All-State choir, which was a wonderful experience.

I can strum a guitar for folk music - self-taught - and good enough to lead for casual worship.

I'm also self-taught on piano. I can play some types of music - real good with arpeggios, but not so much with chords that change rapidly. I'm also much better with my right hand & read treble clef more quickly and intuitively than bass clef. I'd like to take piano lessons some day, but I think I'd need a unique teacher, one who can work well with my varied skills. What do you piano teachers/pianists think?

One of my goals this year is to take time to play piano daily. So far, I've played about once or twice a week. Dh just repaired my piano bench - I had been using an office chair - so maybe I'll get in a good habit now. I feel so much better when I've played.
