we have been invited to a wedding shower and wedding. not sure if we'll actually be able to attend, but seeing as how they are practically family, i want to at least send something. the problem is, both the bride and groom come from VERY well off families and im sure will receive/already have everything they need and a whole lot more. what do you do in a case like this?

Are they not registered somewhere? I'd check the registry then buy something off it that fits within my budget. If what's on there is too expensive, then I'd just get a gift certificate from the store they registered at.

I always do the gift card route. A lot of stores give the bride/groom a discount on what is leftover on gift registry so they can buy it with the gift cards. I know Bed bath band beyond is a 10% discount.

My standby is picture frames. I usually buy them one nice big one with multiple spots and if I'm under budget, I'll also get them one 8x10 single. Every person I've given them too has loved them and told me they never have enough picture frames.

I do this too. Another thing we do ....are they the outdoorsy types? The last wedding gift we gave were to a couple who loved canoeing. We gave them maps of surrounding states that showed them all kinds of places to put in and places to stay along the way if they wanted unique get aways.:)
Another great gift are comfort items. One of my most favorite gifts is a pad thing that you can nuke in the microwave and then use for a sore back etc. Most people don't think of this kind of thing but boy when you need it....
Just think of comfort items you are glad you have but wouldn't normally buy and something we all need or enjoy at one point.
Have some bed trays... never would have bought but boy have we used them over the years with sick kids or ...

I gave a set of several dozen candles once in similar circumstances. Was very politely thanked, and was later let in on the fact that they were ALL used on their first weekend at home, and thoroughly enjoyed. Made me feel good, and apparently did them too ;-)

I usually give an assortment of wooden utensils wrapped in a kitchen towel (I always check what color they're doing their kitchen first.) Especially for younger couples just setting up their houses, these little things seem to get forgotten on the registries and they are so necessary for those first few meals.

my standby is things remembered the store in the mall the personalizes things they also have a website. i would get a silver frame , photo box, or album with there names or weddign date or a large initial engraved on it. i have done this for as little as $20 total. if you go to the store they generally have a clearance section also. they also have things like keychains and marriage licsence holders and other stuff the website, i just checked, is having a sale.

You can go to www.dillards.com and you can click on the "bridal and wedding registry". It will take you a page that will ask for bride/groom names and will direct you to their registry.

I just checked out www.macys.com and it has the same thing. You can click on "wedding registry" and go from there. Hope this helps.
