I'm in Florida, but I just moved into town from the country so I guess I don't qualify. But I do act as though I live in the country with gardening, etc...

Does small town in the middle of nowhere count?

Also, I WAS country when country wasn't cool. Love George Strait, but also the old Dolly Parton (Jolene, Joshua, Coat of Many Colors) and Roy Clark.

Country here too, 5 1/2 acres (not enough!) When my road got paved, I knew it was all over, now there are a few new homes going up down the road. Good thing there is a 200 acre farm right behind me. At least I can look out back and see NOTHING, just some cows.

That's right, rub it in! :toothy: Just kidding.
We were once neighbors! We used to live Montclair, hated it so we moved a little further down 95. We are now in Stafford. We loved it when we moved here because there wasn't much here. Now, right on Garrisonville, we have Target, WalMart, Bed Bath and Beyond, TJ Maxx, Ross, Lowes, Home Depot, all those "big" stores and more restuarants and 7-11's then I can count. We can't wait to leave this area, it's becoming too overgrown for us. Also, they are now widening Garrisonville. Going from 4 lanes to 6. It's a mess!

I am a country girl through and through. Was born and raised in Missouri on a working farm and still live on a farm in small town Missouri. It's the life for me, but I work in the city and I get all the "Green Acres" jokes....but they all have the big houses and fancy cars and all the credit card payments...and I am laughing all the way to the bank....

Born and raised in one of the riches county's, Orange County Ca., Now married and live on a true farm in Iowa. DH farms about 3500 acres with BIL and has about 10,000 head of cattle. Living in the country is the best place to potty train little boys for sure! :toilet:
We have or have had all the animals to boot too, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, cattle, cats, dogs, horses.
Our nearest neighbors are 1/2 mile, the best smell is when the dirt is tilled over and ready to plant!! :dazed:

Well doggie, another kith I can call home.

Live on 5 1/2 acres, and as someone else stated, it's not enough, LOL! We live in a little community where everyone knows everybody else's momma and daddy, grandparents, cousins and what church they were baptised at, and when someone in the family passes you know exactly where they will be buried, and more than likely, the viewing will be at home or church, not the funeral home. You refer to a piece of land as the old _ _ _ _ _ homeplace, and we have no gas stations, grocery stores or even one traffic light. We get excited when we hear our community name mentioned on the T.V., even if it's a statement from the National Weather Service about an approaching storm, LOL. When a stranger happens to wander in, everyone calls around to let everyone else know about it, and let you know they got your child. We don't have 911, and we are the only county in the state of Georgia where it's still O.K. to have a outhouse and a hand pump if you choose to have them. We have several stocked ponds, gardens wild game and fresh seafood (shrimp, oysters, saltwater fish) available year round. We have our family, church, and neighbors close by and I wouldn't live anywhere but where I am right now. We are truly blessed beyond measure. DH drives 1-1/2 hours back and forth to work and I drive 10 miles one wayfor groceries, gas and pharmacy, but it's worth it for us.

Marsh Hen, your community sounds idyllic :D One of my ancestors was one of the first settlers in Savannah, then they migrated to northern GA.

We're 10 miles from the nearest grocery store, post office, fast food, etc, too. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I lived in a tiny town in a rural area for 24 years. It's where I feel most comfortable. I have lived in the suburbs for the last 6 years and no place has felt like home quite like where I grew up. I like country music too and I feel safe in my small home town. I visit about once a week to connect with family and recharge my soul for another week of living in a crowded suburb, driving to work in an even more crowded city, I've got to make a living though :).

I am a country girl, too. Not a southern country girl, though. We are in rural Indiana. I spent a few years in the city in college and 2 years after college. Hated it. You can take the girl out of the country...but you can't take the country out of the girl! ;) I love almost all country music. Some of the really old country has a bit too much twaang for me. After all I was a child of the 80s--with the hair bands and classic rock. But, my Ipod has tons of new hit country along side the 80s hits, and Christian music.

I was born and raised country. Country to me is a state of mind not a place. We have lived on a 34 acre farm and now live on less than an acre. But we still have cattle and chickens. Chickens here at the house, cattle else where. But like I said country is a place but it is also a state of mine. I think you are country if you get more excited about a cook out of church picnic than the new "in" eatery. Your country if animal make you smile and not run with your nose pinched. Your country if you would rather read magazines like Mary Jane Farms and Countryside than In Style and Vogue. With all that said I am Dixie born and proud of it.

I got a little county in me. I'm from the Maryland panhandle, middle of effin' nowhere, right when you're just starting to get into the mountains. It's pretty much WV with a different name. I had to have a little chat once with a Texan friend about exactly where the Mason-Dixon line is when he made some remark about me being a yank.

I can't stand to be too far out, though, but I also would hate to live right in the city (and lord, never ever again will I ever ever ever live in an apartment building!) Now we live on some quiet, wooded property in central MD that seems like it's in the middle of nowhere, especially out back, but is about five seconds from everything, so it's the best of both worlds for me.

My mama is straight outta Savannah, though. I learned to say, "Hey y'all" instead of hi.

Originally from the north, but been in NC (outside Charlotte) area for over 15 years now. Married a southern born and bred redneck....LOL

Have an actual working farm---100 acres. BUT the houses are closing in on us now. Many farms selling out. UGH---but it is OK....at least Walmart is buying some of our other land that has been built around. and yup, making alot of money from it....but no one will ever get my 100 acre farm.

Love country music----what else is there other than old timey rock and roll...LOL

I classify myself as country -- I love country music, especially the old stuff like George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Ray Price, Ann Murray, Freddy Fender, Crystal Gayle and some of the 'newer-older' like Randy Travis, Ricky VanShelton, Alabama, George Strait.

As far as living in the country, I do not. I grew up in the 2nd largest city in Michigan, Grand Rapids, with an estimated population of 200,000 and an estimated metropolitan area population of 1,000,000. I now live in NE Alabama, Guntersville, with an estimated population of 8,000. I guess that's 'closer to being country' -- LOL. Someday I'd love to live in the country!!

I was born and raised in Nashville - a city girl with a country heritage. Now I live 6 miles outside of small-town Kentucky (about 30 minutes from Lexington) on 5 1/2 acres, and I LOVE country life. I despise country music, though, for the most part.

We raised hogs until a few months ago and are now leasing our back acreage to our neighbor who raises gorgeous thoroughbred horses.

I have no desire to live the city life ever again.

Does the backwoods count? Now that DH is retired, we are spending May thru Oct in the 'country ( back in the woods in a cabin about 8 miles from the nearest SMALL town--on dirt roads).

But from Nov thru April--back to the burbs.

Oh, and I get my weekly dose of Country Music every week or so at the little grocery in town. They play it on the speakers.

I was born and raised country on a small farm in Mississippi and stayed right next door there until dh and I bought about 5 acres in rural Kemper county. DH and I have to drive 30 miles to get to a town in any direction, but it is so worth it to be able to sit outside at night and hear the whipporwhills, owls, and coyotes.

Grew up in outside of a town with a population of less than a hundred till a prison moved in. No traffic light one grocery store. Now I live on 9 acres of land near a county, population of about 10,000. Two grocery stores, three discount stores and one thrift store. The churches out number everything else. Wish that it could make the people better here. Our major business' are in other counties nearby. Military base, etc hospitals and industrial. We raise goats and I have one solitary duck who now thinks he's a dog after a hawk or a fox has killed his mate's everytime we get him one. Hate the city too much traffic give me a migraine. Grew up on home grown vege's and but married a city slicker who freaked me out when he decided he wanted to try to raise goats. We been doing it for over six years now. Love country music, classical (don't kill me, helps me meditate(migraines)) and gospel. Wish I had a fireplace though. We want to buy the place next door to put my parents there when they get a little older it's a lot bigger than the lot we own already ( single trailer ) My mother says she needs more space. It also has a green house and fenced in back yard with a storage building with a two apple trees already making fruit. I hope the Lord blesses us we've been waiting patiently for over 15 years and they said that they understand why we want it being so close to our house.

I'm from the country too, grew up in a small town Delaware, heck the whole state is small, now I'm in Tennessee outside of Memphis I've been here forever, but it still isn't home. We are trying to pay everything off and move further out. It has really built up where we are at, not able to ride our horses anymore new neighbors complain and call the police on us. I asked the last guy who called the po-po on us why did he buy a house in a neighborhood where just about every house surrounding the neighborhood has some type of farm animal. He just laughed an said he "we will move you guys out" Well I guess he is right because house around here are going up for sale left and right. :( So we are paying off and saving every penny to get moved further out. Oh this is the same man who called the police on my 10yr old son for riding his dirtbike on my SIL property's that backs up to his neighborhood and the Police scared the (^)(* out of him. But there is nothing better than going to barn to feed in the a.m. and my horse's " talking to me", the deer in my pasture, and my hoot owl, then every spring I have a red tail hawk that takes up residence in my back yard. Sorry to write a book.

got2run3 ya'll should hold out. He sounds like a jerk pardon my French. Thats the type of people that makes me so darn mad. We just had to give away one of our great pyrs because the kids in our neighborhood was trespassing on our land messing with him they hit him and chased him with a four wheeler up and down the side of our fence and threw sticks and rocks at him on our property and he was so smart he learned how to get out of our fenced in 9 acres. He started garding the whole neighborhood. Our other neighbors didn't mind they were single women one is in her late 80's but several blocks away I was we afraid might be getting upset and where I work is where they would call. Me and my dh decided I couldn't take a chance so we gave him to a gentleman that promised us first pick of the litter when his new female mate delivers in a few months. He was so good with our goats and me. He was so good when I had my surgery and I had to walk he protected me from my great pyr(female) and the goats. He knew I was injured and wouldnt let anyone around me. It's terrible that you can't even protect your on land anymore even when you have it fenced in and have signs telling people to stay off. I had people open my gate to let my goats and llamas out. We had to get rid of my donkey because kids tried to ride him but he liked to lay down and we were scared he would hurt them. Call the law on him it's your right to ride on your on property. Have animals if your in the country. Get copies of ordinances. Thats what I did. We have to fight for whats ours these days :fight:

Georgia, I went on line and found the law in the Tennessee Code Annotated, made copies and had them lamatied sp? Because the Police didn't even know the law regarding horses riding on the roadways. We were just annexed by a smaller City. What really irked me about this man is that he was video taping my 16 yr old niece when she was riding her horse to a friends house. It is crazy I don't have my horses @ my house we only have an acre here, I rent 4 acres from a neighbor and I have to lock everything up, She lives on the property but still I have had my horses turned out before, had a well meaning barn neighbor feed my colt who I just bought, broccoli it coliced him so bad and $600 later he had to self heal, because hubby wouldn't let me dump any more money in him. I'm sorry you had to get rid of your mule, and dog. Kids are mean, My border collie hated kids for the same reason they would pick on him. He got loose one day and bit my neighbors little girl. It got pretty ugly but we had witness that she had been provoking the dog. Thankfully her Mom and Dad dropped everything once they heard from our other neighbor. I love Great pyreness and I would love to have and anolian shepherd my cousin has one for his goat herd and I just love him.

Yea us country folks got to stick together. My husband wanted an anatolian shepard but we decided on the pyr. Reb was given to us because the guy before just wanted to get rid of him and we needed a mate for dixie. He was very stand offish at first but I spoiled him with love. Now I miss him. We get first pick of his litter though. One of our deputies where we live wants me to let him know when they deliver because he wants one also. He thought he was just the awsomest dog he'd ever seen how he guarded my house. He would watch to see or listen to hear where I was in the house. Dixie since he has left just hangs out with our duck and one of our bottle feed goats who is about to drop. City folks just don't know nuttin about real life and how good it is.:cloud9:

Howdy. I'm new here...as of yesterday. Yep. Born and bred country. I live on a beef-cattle ranch, 7 miles from 'town'...a no traffic-light...one gas station...one small grocery-store...kind of "town". It's 40 miles to the nearest Walmart...80 miles to a "city". Love it !!! Our nearest neighbor is 1-1/2 mile away...they like their space too. We 'neighbor' in the best way: right there if we need each other; otherwise we mind our own business.

I've never lived in a village, town nor city. I would not do "well" among lots of "people". LOL I would wind-up in a "cell"...either padded or prison. Toss-up: which would be first. I love "persons"...just have no particular use for "people". LOL I want my "herds" to be of the bovine-species.

I'm so glad I found this place. It ROCKS !!!!
