Thank you so much, Seege. :)

Dh wants to go for a long drive somewhere this three-day weekend. I'm frantically searching for Amish settlements somewhere within a two-hundred mile radius. I'm in Northeast Arkansas right by the Mississippi river. Does anyone know of any Amish country in that area?

Thanks homestead mamma! THose are some neat pics.
I wonder how they got them though, amish aren't allowed to have pictures taken of them.

It's not that they're not allowed, it's just that some prefer not to.

Well...I guess there are some sects that aren't allowed. It's like with the dolls some of those girls are playing with? Usually Amish dolls are faceless. It goes with their belief in not making graven images of anything. That's why some don't want their pictures taken and also why they don't hang pictures on their walls.

ahhhh
Thanks Gina :)

I should get a book on the amish ways of life... its kind of interesting to me.
I'm from PA where Amish are a common everyday sight. Now I live in MN and am amazed at the people out here who have never seen an amish person!!

justGina, Just read that you are looking for an Amish settlement within a 200-mile radius. There are some Amish at Arthur and Arcola, Illinois. We used to live in St. Louis and it was about 150 miles to Arthur, Illinois. Check the distance to see how far it is from where you live. There are also some Amish that live in Kentucky but I'm not sure where they are located. My DB lives in TN but the Amish near him are farther away from you than 200 miles.

Hello when I visited Michigan we went to a bakery. YUMMY cakes and breads. I never figured out how they handle the $ transactions. I heard once they use it to pay the govt taxes but who knows... I also heard they dont like their photo taken because it takes part of their soul? Am I confusing them with something I saw on the Discovery Channell?? Those pictures were amazing! I also didnt realize they loved color so much in their clothes. Thanks for sharing those!!!!! :) The only thing we have here is Menonite. I know where their bakery is but it seems very different than the Amish. For example back when I was in the having babys stage I would see them tour the hospital with a pregnant wife. I assume that VERY different than the Amish. Anyone interested in doing an online study of the Amish. Now Im SO interested :)

Within the Amish and Mennonite there are different "sects". Some are very conservative and orthodox. Meaning, they don't wear colours, have their pictures taken etc. Others are more progressive, use electricity, telephones etc.

Beautiful photography! I was under the impression that the Amish did not allow their photographs to be taken.
