View Full Version : Currently making oat bread
Sara Noel 08-31-2002, 11:00 PM All of this bread talk made me want to make some. Of course, little ole me pulled out the trusty bread machine. LOL
I made this but added some cinnamon. (actually am considering raisins too) ugh I need to just let it be. hehe
Light Oat Bread
Makes 1 -1/2 pound loaf (12 servings).
1 1/4 cups water
2 tablespoons margarine
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Directions:
Add ingredients to bread machine pan in order
recommended by your manufacturer. Use regular light setting.
Mommy2Tyler 08-31-2002, 11:11 PM Wonder if I can make thet without a bread machine? It sounds yummy.
homesteadmamma 08-31-2002, 11:17 PM rofl Sara, it was suppose to be by hand, not the bread machine.
I made bread today too and finally had a perfect loaf, with no wrinkles and it didn't fall. Its been quite the experience trying to figure out the different types of grains.
Thats your next project - I know you can do it.
Mommy2Tyler 08-31-2002, 11:21 PM So I can make this by hand??
LOL
Sara Noel 08-31-2002, 11:23 PM It's so funny. I was so excited to go get some bulk yeast and some new bread pans. We set out and next thing ya know, I was at the bread outlet grabbing loaves off the shelves.
:toothy:
I am such a goober. (hush up Chelle)
I will definitely get my act together though. I am motivated.

homesteadmamma 09-01-2002, 12:04 AM You too are so funny.
I'm going to start a new thread for you Sara with a bread recipe.
Mommy2Tyler 09-01-2002, 12:30 AM Ok... where is that thread someone posted the other day about feeling invisible??? LOL ;)
I want to make Oat Bread like this by hand. Can I?
homesteadmamma 09-01-2002, 12:41 AM Sherry I don't think you can. Here is a recipe though for Oatmeal Bread.
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. oatmeal
2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. shortening
2 pkg. yeast
3/4 c. lukewarm water
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. molasses
5 c. flour (approx)
Pour boiling water over oatmeal, salt and shortening. Cool. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and ad to cooled mixture. Stir in molasses and brown sugar. Add flour and mx until dough is smooth (knead approx. 8-10 mins). Let dough rise until double. Shape into 2 loaves. Place in pans and let rise again. Bake at 375 for 45 mins.
Mommy2Tyler 09-01-2002, 12:46 AM You're the best homestead mamma! :D
Sara Noel 09-01-2002, 01:47 AM This recipe is awesome. I love it. The bread was perfectly shaped and tastes great! It is a keeper. I will never buy another mix again. You can't even compare it.
Hurray!
Sara
Mommy2Tyler 09-01-2002, 11:16 PM YaY for Sara!
I made homestead mamma's hand Oat bread today it is delicious! :D
homesteadmamma 09-02-2002, 10:07 AM Sherry, way to go. I'm so proud of you!!
Sara Noel 09-02-2002, 12:58 PM I want to, but need a new bread pan. I am a bit lost on shaping the dough. I do understand rolling like a jellyroll. The seaming part is a little gray, but I am assuming it's kind of just closing the rolled part off. No? LOL Or do you just sometimes place the loaf into the pan without rolling and seaming?
Next, CJ says want me to just bake it for ya too? LMAO.
Must I think verything to death? LOL
That's so great, Sherry. I am glad you made some and it turned out yummy. :)
Sara
homesteadmamma 09-02-2002, 01:13 PM I'll try to explain it better. Here goes.
Empty the dough onto a flat service such as your table. Divide the dough as per recipe. Take one divided piece and flatten with your hand. Then begin to roll it up. Now on both sides. place the side of your hand and flatten down, turning under just a wee bit.
Now you don't have to do this, you can just roll it up and place in the bread pan, but often its just a wee bit larger than the bread pan, so thats why I just "close" it off.
Now no I don't expect you to bake it for anyone but me. :D
btw - I put a no-knead bread recipe in this forum this morning for all those who don't want to knead. Try it, its easy and will be the best bread you've ever made.
