maybe this is only a new england thing but we used to have a thrift store where we could buy all there prods for pennies! 4 loafs of bread for a dollar and snacks galore!!!they wen't out of bussiness down here. now the building is empty what a shame!!! now there are none left,thrift store that is.is this happening anywhere else.these store go up and the stuff is great and then there gone just like that no warning,what a shame.

We have a Butternut store here and you can get white bread for .58/.62 and whole wheat for under $1. That's pretty cheap considering its almost $2 at Kroger. I'll splurge every now and then for chocolate donuts for kids and they're under $1 too. Thats the only place I get my bread.

we have 2 thrift shops here where i live, frenchies and the salvation army. 30min away in the next city we have frenchies(larger version), Froggies(based from USA), salvation army,a new christian one(church), and one down town from there " new to u". Sometimes these places ask too much like $6.00 for a used blanket,come on, lol

jlaporte_ I live near boston & their is a hostess store like what youre talking about...things at least 50% off than the stores. wonder bread etc.
Also a pepperidge farm outlet store I go to both all the time!! Love them!

We have two bakery outlet stores. One is Friehofers (sp) and one is Stroehmann that sell "day old" baked goods, bread, hot dog/hamburger buns, pies, donuts, cakes, bagels, etc. I don't shop much at either one because I can get baked goods cheaper (and fresher) at the commissary.

We have three day old bread stores here.
We use them when we need something I can't make.
Thrift stores around here are expensive.
Salvation army, DAV's, etc... all ask to much for their items.
We have a used car lot here where the cars are donated and they ask an arm and leg for them. I don't understand how that is helping those who need the help. :/

We had a Maier's factory store, and it to went out of business..then we had a Tastycake outlet, also gone....We have one bread thrift store in town, but I have gone in there and saw moldy bread on the shelf, so I won't buy there...I miss the old stores like that too!!

We use to have two around here (NH) and now they're gone. The sad part is that was before I lived frugally so I only went into one of them once. Sad!

We have a Meritta (sp?) store here that sells all different brands of bread, snack cakes, pound cakes, doughnuts etc.... They are a lot cheaper than the grocery stores, none of it is day old stuff and none is damaged. I can usually get Iron Kids bread for $0.69 a loaf, snack cakes and doughnuts that normally run $0.50 or more each they sell 8/$1. It is not unusual for me to walk out of there with three loaves of bread, hot dog buns, BBQ bread and a pound cake for around $5.

wow! i am glad i am not the only one who misses my deals and also thinks the same of these so called thrift stores that sell stuff higher than dept. stores!! we hav a building 19 that sell damaged wood furniture for at 2oo more than at a top notch store!!!i would rather shop clerance and mark downs were i get more for my money and it is brand new!so much for helping the financially challenged.

We have a Hosstess one. I love it. You can't even tell the differance. The baked goods don't last more than a day or two in this house, so that could be why!

We have Merita Bread and Entenmann's Bakery. Both have breads, snacks, etc. So good, so cheap and I only buy breads and snacks there. The best thing about it also is they are just down the street from each other.:bfly:

We have a Sunbeam discount store in Brunswick and I hit it every time I'm over there and freeze the bread.

I'm going to the Merita store today, I'll see what they have there.
