My best friend has blueberries in her back yard. We were talking about yummy things she could do with her blueberries. I suggested that she make jelly or jam with them. She said she had never seen blueberries made into jam or jelly. Have you made blueberry jelly or jam? Neither of us could ever remember seeing it in the stores.

Yes, living in norther Ontario years ago, we always picked blueberries and made jam with them. I've always used the recipe found in the Certo box. Here it is:
Blueberry Jam
Crush blueberries, one layer at a time.
Use 4 1/2 c. blueberries (once crushed)
2 tbsp. lemon juice
7 c. sugar
2 pouches Certo liquid (pectin)
Sterilize jars and rinse well. Prepare fruit as directin. Measure prepared fruit into a large 4 to 8 qt. saucepan. Add lemon juice. Measure exact amount of sugar. Add to fruit and mix well. Place saucepan over high heat and bring to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly. Boil hard for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Immediately add Certo liquid pectin. Stir and skim for 5 minutes to prevent floating fruit (this is important). Pour into warm sterilized jars and seal.
Tip: If you add 2 tsp. butter/margarine while your jam is cooking, you will not have to skim anything off the top when the jam is finished cooking.
Blueberries also freeze really well. You place them on a cookie sheet, one layer and quick freeze them. Then put either in a plastic container or plastic bag. They are excellant made up in pies or we love to just eat the frozen berries as a snack. Blueberries are high in vitamin C and a very healthy food with very few calories.

I have made jam from fresh blueberries and it came out fine. My kids love it on pancakes. I mix it into blueberry muffins, also.:)

You can freeze blueberries, whole and unwashed, as is. After they turn into frozen blue marbles, roll them into freezer bags in 2 or 4 cup portions, whatever works for your best blueberry muffin recipe or pies, or waffles or pancakes to name our favourites.
(true confessions here, I could rinse them before using them in the recipe while still frozen but ahem, I'm lazy, I don't, just DON'T go to the work of washing them before freezing or you have to dry them or they will stick together as they freeze. I prefer freezing them dry and loose, ready to roll on out into my measuring cup!)
Blueberries are wonderfully healthy for the eyesight. I love having lots of frozen ones on hand for muffins and pancakes especially.
