Anyone else here a history buff? And what time period/geographic area are you mainly interested in?

I was supposed to be a history major but had to change, getting a B.A. in history is still one of my long term goals though. I'm mainly interested in Japanese history (feudal and post WWII Japan) and the Middle Ages. I read about these time periods for fun but have endless college credits in history as well. :read:

History buff here! I majored in history in college and am a World History teacher now. Funny, though, I hated the history of China and Japan when I was in college. So, we're kith-mates, but not quite! I love Greece, Rome, and Egypt, and also the history of the Middle Ages.

I'm a history buff too. I've thought several times about finishing up at school with a major in history. My white collar dream job.....teaching history at a university. I don't particullarly have any specific country or era though. It just has to be centeed where the personalties seem to emerge.

The American Revolution through the Civil War is my favorite period of history, but the happenings in the Western U.S. from the 1870's to the early 20th centure also interest me. Such a time of change in lifestyles and culture.

History addict here too! I have so many different periods and topics that interest me in history! The holocaust, women and families on the prairie and in covered wagons, the great depression, anything on family or social life from about 1890 to 1930, the Revolutionary war, the civil war, victorian england or almost anything about england from 1800 or so on, womens history in america, and england. I love reading food history and just domestic history having anything to do with family, society, or women period. I live in Pa now and I lived in Va for years surrounded by so many historical sites and places to visit, its a history addicts dream! I would much rather go to a Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, or Fort Ligonier than to an amusement park anyday!

I am not a history buff by any stretch of the imagination, but, I just had to say that I think it is so cool that we have this community and the ability to share our likes and dislikes of anything and everything. There are so many different types of people on here that there is always someone else that would like to talk to you about whatever topic you are interested in.

I just recently took two years of world history in a small community college. i guess i took world because US history classes were full. I would love to go back and take the US history classes one day. I also used to have the history channel and found it fun to watch. I wouldnt consider myself a buff, but i do and would love to visit all the historical areas of the US and research and learn and have a better knowledge base of where we came from.

I don't think we get the same History channel in Canada, because ours never has any history on it. They actually play CSI now:huh:
I have a BA in British History, and am (obviously) most interested in Britain, but am curious about all places.

I kind of got into history on the back end. After researching my family tree during a high school project I got hooked on geneology and that hooked me on history. I would find out if they founded a University, built a Fort. Old papers showing they were given land for fighting in the Revolutionary War. Trying to find what Indian tribes they belonged to. What ships they came over from Scotland, England, France, Germany,Switzerland. That they fought with the Black Prince. That they survived the plague or died in a Flu epidemic.came over on the Mayflower. That really makes it interesting. When I see a place they stood hundreds of years before and what courage they must have had, it brings history alive. I also have an interest in diseases, probably because of my profession and my gg grandfather was a doctor in the 1800s till 1925.

That's the same reason I became a history buff, & later, a history minor in college. My mom was the family geneologist & traced our family back Across the Pond, so to speak. It was really cool studying something famous (such as the Revolution) & learning that one of my ancestors was at Lexington & Concord. I really started studying the colonial period when Mom uncovered that gem, particularly the Salem Witch Trials. I also like medieval & early Renaissance Europe, especially Tudor England as well.

If my cable company ever picks up History International, I might not leave the house!

My husband turned me into a history buff! I love US history, especially the Great Depression era. How these people survived is an inspiration to me.

I used to buy/sell antiques, which I think ties in with my love of history. I now collect vintage newspapers. In school, we studied the major events, but what has always intrigued me is the way the average family lived throughout the years.

I also sold antiques for years, I specialized in Depression glass, and fancy Stemware. I love the old cookbooks also. I also admire how hard they worked when you look at some of the items in the old newspapers, some things were quite expensive.Even my Great-Grandmother and Grandfather had extra's coming to live with them on the farm I think so they would have enough to eat and also the area I grew up in sponsored quite a few Latvian's and they had one living with them.
